And his dad also taught him that advertising in sporting events sells beer. Only his beer is complete piss. Lord, I don't know why this [expletive] and his commercials annoy me more than they should. Maybe because I'm now a big fan of the Reinheitsgebot Ayinger products. And then we have this Busch phonyhaltz wrote:He also won't let you pull the empty bottle after it's poured off into a glass. You have to keep it on the tale for advertising. "My dad taught me that" is a direct quote.

New to the board, thus new to this thread. Any wheat beer fans? Love Allagash White myself. Also, Westbrook White Thai.
Any Natty Boh is very good.

Re: The Beer Thread
My 3 favorite wheat beers are:
1. Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier -- a classic, an uminpeachable example of the style. The Saison Dupont of wheat beer.
2. Ayinger Ur-Weisse Dunkelweizen.
3. Schneider Weisse Tap 7 Unser Original.
All German, because no one in America has come close to the quality of any of these IMO. The closet in quality from the US that I've had is New Glarus Dancing Man. FFF Gumballhead is a good wheat beer, so is Bells Oberon, but they are both so far removed from the qualities of the style that I think it's tough to lump them in with classic hefes when talking style.

Re: The Beer Thread
Goose Island is doing something REALLY awesome this year with the Sister Series. The sisters are Madame Rose, Halia, Gillian, couple others. They are wild fermented sour beers and very much in demand. In the past, folks have lined up at bottle shops on the release day and they have sold out in a matter of hours, with the beers then popping up immediately on craigslist and elsewhere in the secondary market for $100, $150, $200 a bottle.
So last year Goose didn't release any of these. They kept them barreled up for this year's release. And they are not putting the beer in any off-premise (retail) accounts according to my rep there. You have to buy at a restaurant or bar. Halia is coming this weekend, it's landing at the distributor today and bars and restaurants will have it on Friday, and the only places getting it are in a new Goose Island "Luxury" Account portfolio. Those accounts will get all the Sisters beers, with the understanding they have to carry either Matilda or Sofie year-round, and will get first crack at all BCS allocations in November. Which is pretty cool. No secondary market with price gouging. Beers made with a dry finish to pair with food sold almost entirely in restaurants with good beer programs.
Also no retailers price-gouging. The guy who owns the corner store near our place, I was in there the other day and he still had a 4-pack of BCS. Wow, you haven't sold this yet. Oh, you like this beer, come, take a look. In the back cooler he has it ALL. Proprietors, Rye, Vanilla, Coffee. ALL the BCS and quite a bit of it. I just keep this for my good customers. How much for a Rye? $70. Thanks but no thanks.

Re: The Beer Thread
I went to the Dogfish Head Ale House tonight. The Raison d'Extra and Polo Santa Marron were awesome, as usual. The one new one I tried was the Chateau Jiangu and it was pretty disappointing. Not that it tasted bad, but the complexity didn't really hit me.
