Yep. Better supporting cast too. There was one bad storyline with his ex. Only other criticism I have is that they don't seem to know what to do with Boyd and they've gone through some odd machinations to keep him around. I get why they want to keep him, but it hasn't made a lot of sense.cpebbles wrote:The second season of Justified was a big step up. My wife & I just started watching Modern Family. I'm not normally fond of your typical network comidies but this show is hilarious.

That's exactly my issue with it so far. It's like a slightly grittier version of one of those dumb CSI shows. It's definitely getting better, though. I'm eight episodes in now.cpebbles wrote: It started out a little too much like a network procedural case-of-the-week show and developed a strong overarching story at the end of the first season and certainly into the second.

Boyd was supposed to die in the pilot. But Oliphant (sp) talked him into staying on. That may be why his character has bounced around a bit.ghostrunner wrote:Only other criticism I have is that they don't seem to know what to do with Boyd and they've gone through some odd machinations to keep him around. I tried to get in to Boardwalk Empire and was relatively disappointed.
I had heard some raving about Game of Thrones, but never tried it. My mom and brother talked briefly about the books and one of the dumbest, most vapid women I've ever met was crazed about it. Given the critics hail and her common like of it, I figured I ought to give it a shot.
I ran through 5 episodes last night. Wow.

It's awesome. Just wait. You have some awesomeness coming. However, if you don't like Boardwalk Empire, you may be disappointed. How long did you stick w/ it? It gets awesome.vinsanity wrote:I tried to get in to Boardwalk Empire and was relatively disappointed.

Anyway, Game of Thrones, season 2, coming April. Can't wait!

I think I got through 3 or 4 episodes and just wasn't quite getting it?robbotis wrote:However, if you don't like Boardwalk Empire, you may be disappointed. How long did you stick w/ it? It gets awesome.
You're saying I'll be disappointed by GOT if I don't like BE? I can just already see all of the cogs moving and how everything is fitting together. Some of the characters doing things you wouldn't have expected the first time you meet them, but make sense from what you learn about them (if that makes sense). My only beef is that I wish it wasn't so much from the POV of the Stark's at this point because it doesn't seem like the kind of story that there is a true protagonist/antagonist. Ned has his warts just as Targaryen has justified motives. I've heard some of these mesh more later in the story and I haven't read the books, but it's pretty solid.

Just finished the first season of True Blood, I'll continue to watch it when I've got nothing better to do but I'm definitely not overwhelmed by it.

Another note about Justified - I'm not sure it's common enough for a drinking game, but I wouldn't mind having $5 for every time another character looked at Olyphant and said "well... Raylan Givens"JL21 wrote:That's exactly my issue with it so far. It's like a slightly grittier version of one of those dumb CSI shows. It's definitely getting better, though. I'm about halfway through the 2nd season and I want $5 every time Mags Bennett says "apple pie".ghostrunner wrote:Another note about Justified - I'm not sure it's common enough for a drinking game, but I wouldn't mind having $5 for every time another character looked at Olyphant and said "well...
