Im not a tweeter. But Ive seen some people here and there talking about JP Morosi saying that we have been in contact with Seattle about a swap of major league talent. Donovan is an enticing guy for them, and we need controllable starting pitching. I saw someone mentioning a guy they have called Woo.

Andrew Painter is usually who I trade Goldy for in MLB the Show franchise.

What the hell does this even mean? Is it a typo? You’re the GM. Excuse me, the PBO.
I would hope the Cardinals are not allowed to rebuild
Hard to translate Mo's weird doublespeak, but I think he's trying to say that the fanbase wouldn't have it.
Yeah I think his point was the fanbase wouldn't allow for a long rebuild, and I honestly don't think it's necessary

But a retooling is and I have two fears surrounding that
1) I have fears about Mo being in charge of that.
2) Even though I root for the Cardinals every game and wantt them to win every game, there's also a fear we get hot post all-star break and sneak in the playoffs in a bad division/or at least come within 2-3 games of a spot, and he sees that as a sign to just be patient and do nothing.
This pitching staff isn't good enough to cobble together a hot streak.

They need to sell everything with any value, and get what they can, looking toward 2025.

Reds just did it and their rotation is worse than ours

I don't know. The Arenado deal showed he could at least be a blind squirrel finding his nut.

I think the Cardinals in some ways are pretty well lined up to do some type of 'retool' for next year. They have lots of position players who would be interesting to teams up and down the cost spectrum. So you could see a new version of the trades that brought players like O'Neill and Arenado to the team(but for pitchers this time) without crippling the offense. The difficulty in doing so is that they need the thing that everyone wants. So they'll be gambling on a player who is not living up to expectations(a la the O'Neill trade) or paying a steep price for an established player. Doubly so at the deadline with as few true sellers as there look to be. The other downside is even in the offseason, they need a lot of help in the rotation and may not have abundant resources to do it. As of now the 2024 rotation is Mikolas and various guys who are pitching poorly(Matz, Liberatore) or not well enough to supplant the guys pitching poorly. You'd ideally want to net 3-4 SP in that scenario. Maybe you extend Montgomery, buy low on a guy at the deadline, and sign a FA/make a bigger trade, but that's a pretty narrow road especially when you consider they aren't losing that much salary in 2024 and appear to be close to some type of spending threshold now.

They've already completed their annual late spring/early summer deal with the Guardians by picking up Richie Palacios.
