Re: Mizzou to Cotton Bowl
The reason for the Big Twelve championship game is to rake in extra bucks. Everybody knows that. You can't complain about playing the Big Twelve championship game for the money, and then complain about not getting money from the BCS Bowl. You can't have it both ways.fanforever wrote:Do you have any idea how much money is involved? How much each conference gets when it's tema sgo to a BCS Bowl? B/S if you ask me
I hope LSU destroys Ohio State
Because I want to see some big Ten teams play more tougher teams outside their conference. I just don't like the fact that they play one less "big" game than all the others. Ohio State has been off for 2 weeks, and end up #1?
Kansas didn't win their division, didn't play in the title game, LOST to Missouri, played a terribly easy schedule and still gets the at large bid?
Who did Mizzou play out of conference? Illinois and Ole Miss?
Mizzou got a tough break, but come on, your hatred of the Big 10 is misguided. The Rose Bowl is historically Big 10 vs Pac 10 - do you really care to go to that game vs the Cotton Bowl? I can't imagine why a Big 12 team would care about the Rose. If you aren't in the championship game, why does it matter if it's BCS or not?
Oklahoma just played Missouri in a game that determined who went to a BCS Bowl and Who didn't.
The Big Ten should also have a game in a similar fashion.
and PS: I do not hate the Big Ten
I just believe it should be a level playing field for all the BCS slots
It can work both ways. Last year, Michigan was 2nd in the BCS standings and then was bumped because they didn't play again, and Florida won the SEC championship.
So - you can benefit from playing the extra game, and you can get hosed by not playing that game. It goes both ways.
Again, I ask. Why do you care about going to a BCS bowl game if it's not the title game? Would the Rose be that much more enjoyable that the Cotton bowl for Mizzou? Is it just because of this "BCS" title that really doesn't mean a thing if you aren't in the championship?

Hawaii doesn't get a shot because they weren't lucky enough to play in a BCS conference, and they aren't dripping with enough tradition for voters to be able to put them ahead of 2- and 3-loss teams from "traditional football powers."DiLLaGii wrote:I dont understand this BCS thingy at all. Seriously, though, they get knocked for playing a soft schedule in the WAC. Unfortunately for them, and Boise State, and any other team that gets good in a non-BCS conference, no schools from any of those conferences will ever schedule games against them for fear of losing against a superior team, and thus validating the idea that teams like Hawaii and Boise State deserve the same shot at the National Title as any BCS school. If that ever happened, then people might actually figure out the BCS system is incredibly flawed, and the entire bowl system would crumble.

An extremely easy schedule did them in. That's the long and short of it.DiLLaGii wrote:I dont understand this BCS thingy at all. Hawaii is 12-0 and they are not getting a chance at National Championship title?
I have absolutely no idea who to "root" for in the championship game. I really don't feel like either team is good enough to be a champion, which seems to be a fitting end for such a strange season. Tennessee handed the game to LSU on a silver platter yesterday, and after the Vols were trashed nearly all season long. Nobody felt like UT was deserving of a shot at winning the SEC, but yet they very nearly defeated an LSU team that (supposedly) has much more talent and will be playing for the national title in about a month. I'd like to say my team dominated the national champions for 75% of the game before their QB self-destructed, but at the same time I really don't feel like LSU deserves it - at all. Ohio State stopped playing a few weeks ago and lucked out because the commissioner of the Big Ten doesn't like the idea of having a conference championship game. Sure, they only have one loss, but they didn't play the world's toughest schedule, either. I hope they both lose.
And, plainly put, Missouri got shafted. I hope Virginia Tech pounds Kansas into a bloody pulp so the BCS folks can see why the Jayhawks didn't deserve to be there. Missouri beat two teams that will be featured in BCS bowls; Kansas didn't even beat a single team receiving votes to be in the top 25. Missouri won the division Kansas is in, but lost twice to one of the best teams in the country. How the heck does that justify selecting Kansas over Missouri? After this ridiculous decision, I'm surprised they didn't stick Georgia in the title game over LSU.
Football has been cruel to me this season.

Yet, down South, the Georgia fans are screaming that they were robbed. They don't think LSU should have jumped them in the polls, despite the fact that LSU beat TN to win the conference title. Georiga blew it when they lost games early in the season.....even TN destroyed them. I would have been disgusted had a team who didn't even win their conference (GA) been playing in the national championship game. Wake up, Bulldogs! You even had a tough time beating Georgia Tech, your last game of the season!!!

I am sorry that Mizzou got screwed, by Kansas. But it doesn't really have much to do with ILL or the Big 10.
My initial question was why watching OSU get beaten by LSU would make a lick of difference to Mizzou fans. I'm still not sure I understand the answer. Ohio State did what they needed to do.
And they start a home and home with USC, next year I believe.
I am not a Missouri fan. But I do like Michigan

This has actually happened twice already. Nebraska reached the championship game in '01 despite not reaching the Big 12 championship game. Oklahoma played in the championship game in '03 despite getting blown out (35-7) in the Big 12 championship game.Simbagal23 wrote:I would have been disgusted had a team who didn't even win their conference (GA) been playing in the national championship game.

If they're not going to allow an undefeated, non-BCS conference team to play in the championship game in a season where the best other choices have at least 2 losses, then they need to just select from BCS conferences, and let the smaller conferences play in Division 1-AA (whatever it's called now). They're obviously never going to get a chance to really play with the big boys.BenNX74205 wrote:Hawaii doesn't get a shot because they weren't lucky enough to play in a BCS conference, and they aren't dripping with enough tradition for voters to be able to put them ahead of 2- and 3-loss teams from "traditional football powers."DiLLaGii wrote:I dont understand this BCS thingy at all. And I didn't like it then. I don't follow all of the BCS crap to know if they have tweaked things so this won't happen again? Probably not. In any event, I don't see why GA fans are that upset. Even midseason, most fans were complaining about how crummy their team was. One fan even told me that she was "embarrassed" and wouldn't wear her GA attire. And, no, I don't think GA would have beat LSU on Saturday. Take that, Dawgs!Popeye_Card wrote:This has actually happened twice already. (ok, I'm done venting on the GA fans now)
Sorry Mizzou fans...I do think the Tigers were screwed. But I'm thrilled for the Fighting Illini!
