Just how realistic is the offense's start?

A quick look shows that they needed to replace an offensive VORP of 48.7.

I think I agree, mostly, with where you end up, but I don't much care for this approach.

I know it's not the best, but I've gotten away from that type of thing, ceased doing a lot of my own studying, and ultimately it's the quick and dirty way of doing it.

If he's below 5.50, he's an upgrade over Marquis.

If he hits what most projection systems expect of him he'll save ~30 runs. 3 wins and I think he'll be better than what the preseason numbers said.

Marquis is bad.

Of course Ponson's April and May ERA's were 3.13 and 2.57 respectively so maybe Looper is just matching that... And maybe Kiesler should be the Marquis comparison.

Frankly, I really don't like the "so and so" just has to be better than "so and so" line of reasoning for the rotation.

But don't get me wrong, I think Looper will be fine as a 5th starter for us.

Well, if that's the case, then we really shouldn't speak of "upgrading" a particular position or rotation spot or bullpen spot.

Geez, poor RC, this was suppose to be a feel good thread. His point is correct, the offense will get better.
