Objectively so does Shannon, yet he is beloved by us fans. Who cares.

Two, he's got no rings. I'm not saying Shannon should be in the Hall, but either should Santo.
So Ted Williams doesn't deserve it? Why does a team's failures count against a player's success? One guy can't will his team to a championship in baseball.

BTW, Bill Mazeroski should be forcibly ejected from the Hall of Fame.
I don't agree. He's by far the best defender at his position ever, and it's a defensive-minded position. To me, I think that's good enough to be in the Hall of Fame.
But I'm one who leans heavy on the idea of "fame". To walk through the hall, you should get a good sense of the history of the game in all aspects. Not just a listing of who put up the best offensive stats at their position (and pitcher stats).
But our winners tonight: The Baseball Hall of Fame Committee on Veterans. Given a choice of such overlooked immortals as Gil Hodges and Ron Santo, Jim Kaat and Maury Wills, and such movers-and-shakers as Dodger owner Walter O'Malley, and players' union founder Marvin Miller.
Today, they elected... nobody.
Santo came closest -- five votes short of the spot in the Hall of Fame he has long deserved. There will not be another vote until 2009... 2011 for the non-players.
The electors -- including 61 current Hall of Famers -- should voluntarily resign their positions, or be compelled to. They have made fools of themselves. Again.
The Baseball Hall of Fame Committee on Veterans, Tuesday's Worst Persons In The World!
Boyer was a childhood favorite, but I don't view him as a HoFer. He was a significant player in Cards history, however, and the fact that he is the only non-HoF Cardinal to have his number retired speaks volumes.
I really would like to see Santo's induction happen during his lifetime.
I guess there were no lessons learned from the Buck O'Neil debacle.
Santo was a Cub and therefore does not belong!!!! He only hit over 300 3 times, only had 100+ rbis 4 times and scored 100 runs once. He struck out more than he walked. He was an average MLB player that has been overhyped for years.
Quit crying Santo....... you suck......live with it
There's always going to be a most deserving player left out. If we continue to let that last player in, another player will step up to take the place of most deserving. If this goes on long enough, do we leave anyone out of the Hall of Fame?

let's see...brooks robinson, in the hall of fame, only hit over .300 twice....only had 100 rbi's twice, never scored 100 runs and struck out more than he walked...guess they should kick him out by your reasoning.
btw, i know about brooks' all-star appearances and gg's...just making a point.

You're missing the foundation for his point. The first sentence.

yea, i'm still trying to get over the fact that his first sentence is such a strong argument.

Well it's true. He was a Cub. Can't really argue that one.

Personally I don't think his defense was so overwhelming to compensate for his average offensive skills but the thing that bothers me the most is his constant crying for induction.
