Wade Boggs drank the beer in that barrel over a holiday weekend before they converted it.

A word on Sour beer:
I've had a few now - first taste is a good impression, but as it goes down and as I drink more, I find it unsatisfying.

Are you drinking more lemony/citrusy sour beers, or ones that are more on the wild/Brettanomyces/lactobacillus side?

That is pretty close to what is in my fridge right now:Fat_Bulldog wrote:I agree with this. Every once in a while, but that's it.jim wrote:I'm all hopped out. I tried to acquire a taste for IPA's and stuff but I just finally had to admit to myself that I just don't like them. Sam Adams Boston Lager is my upper limit on hoppy-ness. If it's hoppier than that, it's not for me.
I like lagers, bocks and stouts.
Lager: Budweiser and Two Women (New Glarus)
Bock: Cabin Fever (New Glarus)
Porter (no Stout): Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald.
I'm enjoying a nice American lager as we speak.

Re: The Beer Thread
They now use the term sour to mean something intentionally done to a beer? When I first read that, I was trying to imagine how you had a good first impression of a sour beer. I was like - what? Don't you just reflexively spit out sour beer?Freed Roger wrote:A word on Sour beer:

I guess I don't know what Sour beer is, but if it's like lemon and citrus it's absolutely not for me. I accidently bought some Leiny Summer Shandy once and couldn't even finish the bottle. Is that what Sour beers are?

Re: The Beer Thread
The Sour beers I had were citrusy, kind of summer shandy-ish, with less carbonation. First impression, was along the lines of it doesn't taste bad and is surprising...then it goes down and I am waiting for the warm happy beer flavor, and there is none.jim wrote:They now use the term sour to mean something intentionally done to a beer? I wanted to like, but so far, not for me. I have said that about other styles and have ended up evolving and/or finding versions I like.

Re: The Beer Thread
I don't pick up "flavor profiles" of food and wine and the like. When I take a sip of wine and am asked for a flavor profile, it's usually wine. That's what I taste. No pears, no apples, no wood - just wine. But, when I take a sip of some of these beers, I do get lemon or peach or rasberry or whatever. That is NOT good. When I get flavor profiles out of an alcoholic beverage it's not a good thing.
