Tebow was a little better today. His passing game was at least acceptable this week, but probably not in the "good" category.

That being said (and adding the caveat that I really like him personally), he's continuing to get way too much credit for the recent Denver success. He's not turning the ball over - he deserves credit for that, because it's critical for the current Denver team. But the defense is absolutely carrying this team, and nobody mentions it.

I'll apologize in advance for another week of media Tebow hype. It really is getting stupid. And again, this is coming from a guy that likes him.

Do you think the Broncos are 5-1 with Orton?

Not a chance. Tebow has helped them play better. There's no doubt about it. As I've said repeatedly, he hasn't made the mistakes that Orton was making. He's giving the defense a chance to keep the team in the game, and then he's personally taking the game over at the end.

His passing hasn't been great (although anybody watching the games should admit that he's shown signs of being good). But it has improved, and he's done enough other things exceptionally well to help the team.

I thought it was a nice one, Freed. I am glad it was intentional.

He's got the work ethic to improve, I think. I've got nothing against a squaky clean pro athlete. Annoying, sometimes, especially with the media BS, but I prefer his story to that dog killing piece of [expletive] Vick that everyone loves or the alpha male douche bag Roethlsberger who likes pulling his business out to a trapped drunk girl at a bar.

On Sunday, Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver said that he’d leave the topic of coach Jack Del Rio’s future for another day.

If you had “Tuesday” in the office pool, congratulations.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that Del Rio has been fired. The Jaguars reportedly will announce the move at noon.

The move comes as no surprise, especially since Del Rio has publicly blamed offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter twice in two weeks for decisions that went bad during Jacksonville losses. Most recently, Del Rio said that a key timeout wasn’t taken because Koetter didn’t want it, a shameful passing of the buck away from the desk of the man who runs the show.

Perhaps Del Rio, sensing his demise, was hoping to keep Koetter from becoming the interim head coach.

The second coach in franchise history leaves with a regular-season record of 69-73, with a 1-2 record in two playoff appearances.

The move likely would have come early, but for a five-year contract that Del Rio scored after making a stunning Leftwich-for-Garrard quarterback swap on Labor Day weekend in 2007. Since that year, which culminated in a postseason win at Pittsburgh, the Jags haven’t been back to the playoffs — and Del Rio has been saved by what was a multi-year buyout.

As it now stands, Del Rio will be paid for one year and five games to not coach the Jags.

You have to wonder what is going on with Kronke, Khan, and the new LA team...since St. Louis and Jacksonville are two of the reported teams to move to LA. Maybe there's nothing there, and Khan just really wants to be an owner...but it's interesting to think about.

Not trying to troll or Joey Bomb anyone, but I thought this Tebow article was pretty interesting. Some organization called Cold Hard Football Facts, which seems to be a Prospectus for football, says Tebow's success is justified and that everyone's looking at the wrong numbers:

There would seem to be some pretty big holes in the argument- sample size (which they acknowledge) and Denver's defense playing a role which gets glossed over. And I have no clue how accurate any of this is. Still, interesting.

It's interesting. A couple of notes:

They point out repeatedly that Tebow has out-played the quarterback of the Broncos' opponents. While I think that's true, a large part of that is because Denver hasn't exactly faced a stellar group of quarterbacks, and their defense has done a terrific job of containing the opposing quarterbacks.

They also point out that Tebow has taken incredibly good care of the ball. I think that's what many people are missing, and something that I've been saying week after week. I don't personally think that Tebow has done a great job of moving the offense and scoring points, but he has consistently put Denver's defense in a good position to stop the opponent.


Tebow has effectively done what his coach has asked him to do, and that has helped his team win games. But there are obviously many other (probably more important) components that are helping Denver win games.

And while I'm hopeful that Tebow can continue to improve and become a better all-around quarterback, I'm willing to admit that it's far from a guarantee that he can produce in the long-haul.

Not sure where you guys are on Gregg Easterbrook/TMQ but he had this to say that I thought made a lot of sense:

At San Diego, Tebow enthusiastically ran out the other way each time he handed off, just as a high school quarterback would. The Bolts were so rattled that by the second half, a man was going with Tebow when he ran out empty-handed. Late in the third quarter, Denver faced third-and-5. Tebow was flushed from the pocket and rolled left. San Diego linebacker Travis LaBoy slammed to a stop at the line of scrimmage and didn't pursue Tebow, so worried was he about losing contain. Tebow threw for a first down, and Broncos High School recorded a field goal on the possession. The cheerleaders should have done push-ups!

Now that defensive coordinators have film of Tebow running the offense seen on Friday nights, its effectiveness is likely to decline. But until then -- hey kids, don't miss the next Broncos High School game! Buy some baked goods to support the drum line! Vote for our team to be featured on local access cable! I think what they're saying in the SI article rings true. No matter how he's doing it, he is getting it done. But much like a John Gall or John Rodriguez in baseball, I think it's working because it's 'unexpected' thus far. Kind of like the Titans in 09 when they went from a pocket passing QB (Collins) to the more fleet of foot Vince Young and finished 8-2 behind him then started 5-5 in 2010. I won't be surprised when he gets figured out and drops from 5-1. But at this point he looks like he can keep from turning it over and be serviceable.
