I agree. Cardinals should not have let Arenado dictate his terms so much. They should have made it clear he would be part time at best.cardsfantx wrote: ↑August 1 25, 11:02 amit should have been the plan to begin this season (with Gorman as the LH platoon against RHP with arenado)dmarx114 wrote: ↑August 1 25, 9:40 amHopefully. Are they going to do a hybrid/benching of Arenado?
had we done that, he may have loosened his NTC in the offseason if we'd told him that

And next year JJ and Blaze will also likely be in the 3rd base mix.Slider wrote: ↑August 1 25, 9:38 amInteresting tidbit in John Denton’s article mentioning that Arenado may change his mind about his NTC this off-season because the plan is to give Saggese and Gorman more playing time at 3rd base the rest of the season.

Arenado may not be worth his salary anymore, but he was still a 3.1 fWAR player last season in addition to being a potential HoF’er. There is no way the plan would be to have him slated for part time on a middling roster.dmarx114 wrote: ↑August 1 25, 12:41 pmI agree. Cardinals should not have let Arenado dictate his terms so much. Yankees continue to show the Cards how to cut dead money production. First DJ, now Stroman.

They’re trying to force Arenado to leave because it has become a loser franchise with a loser POBO.

I wish I didn't agree with you but unfortunately you're spot on. I mean, have you seen the plan for season ticket prices for next year?

This might be a good topic for new or different thread but when I saw your comment I couldn't help but think of the FO's latest shot directly into their own foot.

The price hike is probably smart from a business standpoint since the people they are targeting with the price hike are likely renewing anyway.letsgocards89 wrote: ↑August 4 25, 9:23 amI wish I didn't agree with you but unfortunately you're spot on. They're trying to trade Arenado because he is a significantly below average player who is owed a lot of money. That, plus the NTC, is of course why they also can't trade Arenado.
Mozeliak is bad and has been bad. Ownership is bad and has been bad. Wish I could say I was more optimistic, but it's gonna be a few [expletive] years at a minimum.

I should have started a poll on this, but I'm pretty sure I've hit rock bottom of my Cardinal fandom. I'm not old enough to have experienced the 70's. The 90's were certainly bad, but this is feeling eerily similar. The Cardinals currently sit 11th(!) in the NL in attendance, despite a .500-ish team. It has never been that low. We're 2 spots behind the Rockies!
Ownership has given up investing in the team at all. The 3 headed GM is adrift at sea. We were finally sellers for once, and I'm not sure we got a single player in return that will spend more than 150 games on a MLB roster. We don't seem to have an electric player in the system that we can look forward to.
It is really tough to have any sort of faith in the Cardinals right now. No one running the team seems to give a [expletive]. I'm not sure why any of the fans should either.

I think the moves Bloom makes will dictate how interesting this team will be to follow in the coming years. If he proves to have an eye for talent, today's losses will be a bit easier to tolerate but if we continue to lose big on trades and miss on drafts, it could be pretty easy to walk away and put your interests toward something more satisfying.
