I guess my point above here is, this dance with the RPI lady is too much a factor for my liking. From a fan's perspective, it along with the boring scheduling of sure wins to make it bowls to help recuit better kids from Texas etc etctakes college FB from being my favorite sport to follow evuh, to just one I get into every now or then.

Granted, I have no idea how college FB can fix this aspect of the competition that we fret upon in between games , just
a personal subjective view that goes away when I drink a beer and actually watch the game

I'm not entirely sure it's the RPI or advanced stats, though. I brought that up but I'm doubtful it's a major factor with the people who count. The committee isn't really the most progressive-thinking group around.

I think they're basically going off of what they see- 12 games worth of a team letting lots of inferior teams hang around.

I would kind of love that on a lot of levels. And I think he'd fit really well there.

I'd bet a dollar to a dime it has nothing behind it other than possibly a ploy to get a raise. Though, the gist I get from Arkansas fans is they wouldn't be too terribly upset if he did leave.

Perception of being outcoached in the 2nd half, lack of pizazz, perception of inability to adapt, etc. I don't know.

I happen to think he's got them going in the right direction and from a little bit of a distance have no problem with it.

But....there's also something to be said about trying to beat Alabama at its own game with worse recruits. And, a complete and utter hatred to the point of whining about up tempo offenses and being paid a lot to do all that. Throw in how the grass is always greener on the other side and not one person I've talked to today or over the course of the year is really enamored with him.

Probably some of the reasons WI fans weren't really bummed when he left as well.

If I was a fan, I'd be pretty stoked about the direction the program is going. But I definitely understand some of those concerns. I guess they could bust his nuts for last year, but his system and the kinds of players Petrino brought in before him could not be further apart. It'd be tough to do the brawl and maul thing with spread offense guys.

I don't follow Arkansas as closely as I used to, but there certainly isn't a buzz around the team like there was after Petrino's 2nd year. Of course Petrino came into a better situation. But he also had pizazz. I don't think he was so much of a spread guy as he was an offensive guru with a knack for coming up with plays and a lot of that was drop back and throw it 40 yards down field which is precisely what Arkansas fans had criticized Nutt for not doing.

Petrino focused on QBs and WRs where he sent at least 2 QBs to the NFL and a handful of receivers. Bielema is focused on RBs and lineman and he's poised to send quite a few of those to the NFL as well. Different strokes indeed.

Why people aren't happy, I guess it's the culmination of losing a handful of winnable games. Going back to last year there was Rutgers and MS State off the top of my head. This year it's: MS State, Alabama, geting throttled by Auburn in the 4th quarter, aTm, etc. People were happy not to be blown out, but if you watched those games you can't help but feel like they were mismanaged somewhat and a pretty big letdown late. On top of all that, he's not sexy, like I said before. He's a ground and pound and pound on defense type guy. It's working, I think you have to say as he's got them to be a ~top 25 program in a short amount of time and things are looking on the up. But, they've seen it with Nutt. Ground and pound and play defense. Lose games late. Snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, etc.

If Mizzou was in the position Arkansas was in, ignoring how good mizzou has been the past couple years, I'd be happy. At the same time, I didn't grow up with a coach that could be Bret Bielema Sr.
