Interesting that they never actually said Ted was killed. I don't see how he can't be, but I thought it was weird that they focused on his fingers twitching, and then when Saul didn't actually say the words I wondered if that was significant.
I'm guessing he's not, and it'll come back. They never let anything go. Either that or we find out for sure that he is in the next episode.
Okay, one larger complaint - from the outset they've established how important Walt's expertise are, which I find unlikely but I can accept as the conceit of the show. But suddenly Gus is going to entrust it to Pinkman who doesn't understand the science and is only working by rote, and isn't exactly a stable person historically. What happens if theres an accident at the lab, or one of their supplies dries up and they need to redo the formula? Hard to see where that makes sense from a business standpoint.
He only needs Jesse to continue making the formula until he can find another chemist, and theoretically, he doesn't have a lot of competition right now after the blood bath in Mexico. I guess it's a little far-fetched, but can be reasonably explained away.
I'm pretty sure Mike is coming back, and I don't know that he's on Gus's side. I'd say I could see him and Jesse turning on Gus and saving Walt
That's interesting. What makes you say that he's not on his side? Not doubting or anything. Mostly I'm just curious why you'd say it because it's not an impression I have.
I might be putting too much importance on it, but the whole thing with Mike not getting medical attention - I thought they focused on it too much for it to mean nothing. He's also developed a fondness for Jesse (again my impression) and we don't know how Jesse will go but my guess is he sticks by Walter in the end. Also, early in the season it seemed to me that Mike was losing patience with his role with Gus- the truck that got shot up and his ear. I also thought it was odd that he spoke to Walt as much as he did about Gus, at least before he clocked him.
It's so easy to forget that the entire reason for the rift between Gus and Walt is that Walt murdered the dealers to save Jesse's life. The situation really should be salvageable, though that's not the direction the show has been going. I'm anxious to see what cliffhanger the season finale is going to bring. 16 episodes to go seems like too many for Hank to suddenly wake up. I wonder if they'd have the guts to kill off Jesse now.

I thought the 'he pays my salary' and then the doctor saying "Gustavo, you need protection?" was another 'hint' at Gus' prior importance somewhere. It also seemed, given what happened to the Cartel, Gus' situation was actually more quickly remedied and immediate. Mike doesn't appear to be in any sort of danger of kicking it so I think he'll still stand by Gus. He was willing to die in that meeting or so he said.
I can see where it'd be a problem if they ran out of supplies, but Gus seems to be able to get anything ready he needs to. Otherwise it's just following a recipe. You can be a [expletive] cook, but if you make the same recipe under a world class chef for 6 months, you'll pick up his techniques for that one recipe and should be able to faithfully recreate it. I can buy that Pinkman has picked up all of the little tricks that makes Walt's meth work.
I can't wait to see what Walt's going to do in the next one. He knows he can't go to Pinkman, but maybe Jesse can come to him? Maybe because he had the girl and her kid over Walt will appeal to Jesse on their safety. Gus had already threatened their lives once, no? Gus now has Walt's family on watch, too.

I agree, hard to see how this goes on for 16 more episodes, but I'm so glad it does!
Mike defintely comes back and has mucho respect for Pinkman, and has had it w/ Gus. The entire Hank thing. No freaking idea how that plays out! Walt gives Hank all he needs to bring down Gus. Leaves Pinkman out of it. Pins alot on himself. Gus goes down. Walt fakes his death in a Lab explosion.
It had to be done. When there are that many spoiler tags, it's fertile territory.
I highly recommend the Breaking Bad podcast. I've only listened to 3 or 4 but it gives a TON of insight into what's going through the writers' minds, what goes into the music, the camera work, the editing, etc... And Cranston is hilarious.
