I can't remember if I already posted this (a sign of getting old), and I'm too lazy to look back through this thread (2 for 2) but I've been getting aarp mailings for a few years now. Got something the other week encouraging me to sign up for medicare before by 65th birthday. Maybe I should call. I mean, 35 is before 65.

Speaking of getting older... Today is my mother's birthday. She celebrated by slipping in the bathroom this morning and breaking her arm. :(

My kids started at a new school, and I was asking my 2nd grade son who he has been playing with at recess. He was being coy about it (probably because he's still adapting to all the change), so to guess who he's been hanging out with I started listing names that were common when I was a kid, like Matt, Jason, or Scott. This made him laugh, and as I kept saying similar names like Kevin or Dave or Tom, he was rolling on the floor as if I were someone from the early 1900's and saying names like Morton or Aloysius or Elmer or Jasper.

She is doing ok...she is more mad that she is going to miss work. Luckily it was a simple break and shouldn't require surgery.

My 13 y.o. daughter and I ran a 5K trail run yesterday. I've been running semi-regularly and am in OK shape. I ran as well as I had hoped for - about 8:20/mile which is ~30 sec/mile faster than my regular runs. She has not been running much, and when we've run together for training runs, she's begged to stop and walk after going at a slower pace than I typically go for those runs. Early in the race, I had to stop and tie my shoe. She kept going and I figured I'd catch her based on our practice runs. But she kept the pace and I wasn't able make up the ground. She just brought it and beat me (even after only getting about 5 hours of sleep at a sleepover the night before). I'm really proud of her, but I also feel like it was a milestone in aging for me.
