The Big Galoot and Mr. Fuzzypants did not like that crusty snow last night. The Galoot usually is hyperactive and unstoppable in the snow, but when I let him loose he was a bit befuddled how to gallivant with proper form.

Well, Fuzzypants has adapted. The crust is strong enough to hold him, but not the Galoot. I set him loose and he scanned the horizon for rabbits and squirrels, rescanned, and none were to be had. So he decided not to posthole thru the snow.

Now Planet, she's probably snuggled up inside with her cats, pot pourri simmering.

LAWRENCE, Mass. (WHDH) -- A police dog in Lawrence was searching for suspects when he not only found a gun, but shot it.

“I definitely thought for sure my dog just got shot,” said Lt. John Pickle, Lawrence Police Department.

Lt. Pickle said they were called to an intersection in Lawrence early Saturday after three suspects were arrested following gunshots.

The gun allegedly involved was buried in a snow bank and that’s when 3-year-old Ivan went to work.

“It’s the first time we’ve been out there where there’s been a gun involved and it was hidden and we were able to find it,” said Lt. Pickle.

Digging through the snow with his paw, the German Shepherd not only located the gun, he fired it. It was a loaded Ruger semi-automatic.

“We train for that. The dog’s supposed to go in there and just lie down or sit when he find the article. I think it’s just because it was buried in the snow and he pulled it out. A one in a million chance there,” said Lt. Pickle.

Mr Fuzzypants turned into the Abonimable Snow Dog this AM.

By comparison - Big Galoot flies thru this type of snow with the greatest of ease. If there was any varmints traipsing out today, he'd have had a hearty breakfast.

When I see something like that, it makes me realize how warped evolution/survival of the fittest has become with dog breeds.

Mr Fuzzypants is a Lhasa Apso -how in the world does a breed like that emerge from the snowy mountainous regions of Tibet? Out of domesticated breeds, lhasas are one of the closest related to wolves....originating from small breed of mountain wolves 4000 yrs ago.... Please! Took him out to Castlewood state park once, within minutes his coat was covered in large burrs. I get all that off him, and he just goes right back in, peeing on everything, getting recovered in burrs.

Then you got the Big Galoot, a superior beast in most all facets if there ever was one.

Well, my cat died last week, and now we'll be getting a dog in the next month or two.
I know I discussed on here a Bulldog.
But man, I've been looking and they're all between $1800-$3000. Being out of a job soon, I can safely say, I won't be getting a bulldog puppy!

I guess to the rescue shelter I go. I just worry about getting a breed or tempermant that isn't good w/ children. Any recommendations dog peeps?
