I think it would have been nice to see a soccer stadium in St. Louis to host a game.Gashouse wrote:So what do you all think about the US-Mex-Can bid for 2026? I only read enough to see that 10 games would be played in mexico and canada each, and then the remaining 60 would be in the US. And isn't that the year it expands to 48 teams?
Did they list venues yet? Unfortunately, I doubt Mpls/St.Paul will host anything unless it's at the Gophers football stadium. the new Vikings monstrosity has an artificial turf and I assume the to-be-built MN United stadium will be too small for a WC game.TimeForGuinness wrote:I think it would have been nice to see a soccer stadium in St. Louis to host a game.Gashouse wrote:So what do you all think about the US-Mex-Can bid for 2026? I think it's a great idea. Has there ever been a World Cup that was hosted jointly by multiple countries? Seems like that would be the kind of thing that the organizers are looking for.Gashouse wrote:So what do you all think about the US-Mex-Can bid for 2026? Japan and South Korea co-hosted in 2002. I'd guess co-hosting will be more common with the larger tournament.Fat Strat wrote:I think it's a great idea. Except they're probably looking for money.
FIFA won't let world cup games be played in anything smaller than NFL stadiums.TimeForGuinness wrote:I think it would have been nice to see a soccer stadium in St. Louis to host a game.Gashouse wrote:So what do you all think about the US-Mex-Can bid for 2026? Not even early games pitting small fan base countries? Can we put grass in the Ed?TimeForGuinness wrote:...I know...it was more of a venting of frustrations.thrill wrote:FIFA won't let world cup games be played in anything smaller than NFL stadiums.TimeForGuinness wrote:I think it would have been nice to see a soccer stadium in St. Louis to host a game.Gashouse wrote:So what do you all think about the US-Mex-Can bid for 2026?
