Nationals acquired LHP Marc Rzepczynski from the Athletics for INF Max Schrock.
Rzepczynski has walked 24 batters and yielded 38 hits in 36 innings this season for a nasty 1.72 WHIP, but he has somehow managed a 3.00 ERA. Washington is desperate for bullpen help, especially from the left side. "Scrabble" will function in a lefty specialist role.

Re: Former Cardinals Watch
ndians acquired OF Coco Crisp from the Athletics for LHP Colt Hynes.
The deal was agreed to on Tuesday night and formally announced Wednesday -- the deadline for waiver trades. Crisp has batted just .234/.299/.399 with 11 home runs and seven stolen bases in 102 games this season, but he gives the Indians some much-needed outfield depth for the stretch run. Michael Brantley (shoulder) is done for the year and Abraham Almonte is not eligible for the postseason following his February PED suspension. Crisp, 36, began his major league career with Cleveland back in 2002. He'll be a free agent this winter.

Seems odd that Crisp has been with the A's since 2009. He's the sort of player at the sort of age that I expect to see move around every two or three seasons.

Re: Former Cardinals Watch
Here's an article that attempts to white-wash Jason Heyward's season...http://www.espn.com/blog/chicago/cubs/p ... rd-signing
FG actually has Heyward's LD rate at 20%...not 22%. And Heyward leads the league in soft contact. There's one month left in the season....I think we can retire "he's unlucky" as an excuse. But career regression is not the only thing working in Heyward's favor. There is also the luck factor, something that Cubs manager Joe Maddon has brought up time and again. Heyward seems to have had an inordinate number of hard-hit balls that have ended up as outs.
In fact, there is statistical evidence to back this up. For the season, 22.2 percent of Heyward's balls in play have been line drives. The Cubs' team rate is 20.9 percent; the league figure is 21.4. Heyward's figure is better than that of Anthony Rizzo, though to be fair, Rizzo is a prodigious flyball hitter.
The league OPS on line drives is 1.661. (That's why players try to hit them.) The Cubs' team number is 1.724. Heyward's result? It's 1.300, 431 points lower than the second-worst figure of his career. Heyward's rate of line drives is actually at a career-high level. In other words, never has Heyward hit more hard balls into play, and never have so many of those drives been turned into outs.

I loved TLR during the 2006 WS celebration: "I'm a personal friend of So Taguchi!" And the crowd goes nuts

Of the 19 right field -> first base putouts from 2000-14, Brian Jordan was responsible for three of them in the year 2000 alone
