Oktoberfests started back in late August, my friend. You've been missing out.

Not necessarily, I've tried quite a few & can only think of a couple that are actually good. Most I've had I would share the opinion of jim & zeus on, they tasted like crap.

August is not when I want to drink Oktoberfest. I need a chill in the air.

Go back to drinking your PBR. I will happily drink your gifted pumpkin ales and summer shandys out of really expensive 4-packs.

What is Oktoberfest? I bought a six the other day and I like it, but I don't really understand why it only comes out in the fall.

Four packs still boggle my mind. The atomic unit of beer purchasing is a six pack. If you split that, there has to be some conversion to energy ala E=MC2 and that could be dangerous. 2 cans of beer turning to pure energy is mind boggling.

Maybe not a complete explanation:

Before refrigeration, it was nearly impossible to brew beer in the summer due to the hot weather and bacterial infections. Brewing ended with the coming of spring, and began again in the fall. Most were brewed in March (Märzen). These brews were kept in cold storage over the spring and summer months, or brewed at a higher gravity, so they’d keep. Märzenbier is full-bodied, rich, toasty, typically dark copper in color with a medium to high alcohol content.

Oktoberfest is a marzen--malty, not terribly hoppy, kinda sweet.

Oktoberfest beers (not marzen, which predates them) started as a celebration beer for a German royal wedding in the early 1800s. The celebration of that wedding continued on as a seasonal celebration after.

Bouelvard Bob's 47 is really good this year. Well attenuated, lighter. Revolution's is pretty awesome--heavier, kind of a honey sweetness, big malt character.

The Joker: [examining Vicki's work] Crap... crap... crap... crap...

[sees pictures of war victims]

The Joker: Ah! Now that's good work! The skulls... the bodies... you give it all such a glow! I don't know if it's art, but I like it!

I like the beer backstories, they remind me of Cliff Clavin-ism:
Yorkshire Pudding was invented in the late 1770's during a beef shortage. A person could be given a little bit of beef and soak up the gravy with the pudding thereby fooling his stomach into thinking he was having a fuller dinner than he actually was
