Let's hope this doesn't result in a playoff revenge scenario. That would be very Giants.

He's well-adapted to his role at the bottom of the baseball ecosystem, building his nest of twigs in the vacancies left by middle infielders.

Jon Jay DL'd with broken arm. I'd seen him mentioned in trade rumors (non-Cards).

Fryer made his first appearance with the Pirates against the Cards in St. Louis. It's always weird when a guy gets acquired and his next game he basically just walks across the stadium to the other clubhouse. I think a long time ago a guy played in the first game of a double header for one team but by the time of the second game was traded to the opposing team and played for them in the second game of the double header.

n May 30, 1922, the Cubs won the opening game of a day/night doubleheader against the Cardinals and one of their outfielders, Max Flack, went home to grab lunch (he lived three blocks from Wrigley). He returned to the Cubs clubhouse for the evening game to find out he'd been traded to the Cardinals for one of their outfielders, Cliff Heathcote. The players literally traded jerseys and played the evening game.

The Cubs won both games, and both players were hitless in the opening game but 1-4 and 2-4 in the game with their new teams.
