My thought was a “big” move meaning moving someone otherwise seen as unmoveable, like neighbors or toro (our choice because they seem to love those guys) or buch (whose salary now seems kinda standard for a 2-way second liner.) Or maybe they flip mcmichael. Idk. Just seems like a lot and no room for kids to take jobs, and heck, maybe no room for suter who was already here.

So maybe that’s not a big move (depending on the return) but with all this filler and kids needing spots, I could see a decidedly medium move where we try to get a rw or d in the target age range.

I guess you could try to move Buch, but I think it would be a salary dump only - in which case I think you just hang onto him and hope that his regained form toward the end of the season continues. Really doubt they move Neighbors (or Thomas, or Snuggy, or Holloway). Suter plays some valuable minutes and if he's your 4th line center, that's a really good start for a 4th line.

Toro could certainly be gone, but I don't view that as a big loss. Walker looks to be an odd man out, which would be a shame because he's a huge energy guy both for the team and the crowd.

I knew I knew Dube's name. I just looked up why.

Ewww.

Yeah, this seems like a situation the Blues could have easily steered clear of.

I actually think Buch has a fair amount of value for us. He’s still overpaid, but he is a good two way player, and I’m pretty hopeful that, when he doesn’t have to moonlight as a center, he can still be a 20-25g, 55+ point player for the next few years. Plus it’s good to have a few vets sprinkled in. I think if he were a fa today, I’d bet he’d probably get a number in the low 6s.

We just saw sjs sign trouba for $8.5m. Buch could net an okay return if we really wanted to move on from him.

With Buch having 5 more seasons at an $8MM AAV, I'm not even sure you could get a 2nd rounder for him unless you are taking a contract back. That's why I'm saying he'd basically be a salary dump move only, in which case he likely has more value to the Blues to keep him. It isn't like we need to free up cap space.

I’m not saying Buch isn’t overpaid, he is. But with the jumping cap and power creep on contracts, $8m is, probably not quite this year, but is likely next year, 2nd line money. First liners are now at 9-10+, and that will rise too. If Buch has a nice 25g 60p year while being responsible defensively, I could see him having positive trade value. Like Schenn and Faulk. They were WAY overpaid… until suddenly they weren’t, wrt to the market. (And in Schenn’s case, it wasn’t because he improved)

Philly signed Leo Carlsson to an offer sheet of 5 years/18!! Mil per year

ANA has a week to respond if they want to match and keep him, or they get 4 1st round picks if not.

That seems like a really, really bad deal for Philly. That would be a questionable deal even if he were a 21 year old McDavid.

Oh the ducks will match/no question IMO. Their Gm was already saying he’s going to match any offer sheet given to Carlsson.

It’s awesome though; cause they wanted to sign him for 8 years at a lower AAV. Now they can’t and have a higher AAV than they want (and have others they need to lock up), AND allows Carlsson to hit FA at 26.
