Hopefully, he has another gear he turns it up to in the playoffs & hits the reset button for next year & plays up to his potential.
I have been wondering if he's been playing butthurt this year because he's on the 3rd line.

Stastny has been fine. Really good advanced stats, and he's on the 3rd line because Lethera has kicked ass. He was also hurt, and will probably end the year with a 17-18 goal, 55 point pace... on the 3rd line, with Berglund as a linemate, on a new team in a new system.

Forget the salary, he's been fine. If, knock on wood, a center goes down, he can step in and be a legit 1/2 center for us.

Yes. Stastny would be an all star if he was with Tarasenko and Schwartz. As it's been, he's made the third line a legitimate scoring threat and turned Jaskin into a 20 goal scorer. $7 million is a lot, but I'm not sure how they could have better used that money.

Plus, the off-season goal last year was to bring in two centers, and the Blues did what they needed to do. The Blues paid the going rate for a good, veteran, free-agent center.

If Stastny was playing like a 1st or 2nd line player, Hitch would put hiim on the 1st or 2nd line IMO. I guess I just had higher expectations.

Stastny missed the early part of the season giving Lehtera the opportunity to gel with Tarasenko and Schwartz. When he returned there was no way that he was breaking up that line and the SOB has played incredibly well after starting slow. Stastny makes the extra pass when in good scoring areas more than I'd like, but he's still a very good player. He has been far better than Lehtera has been imo.

The top 4 forwards on the Blues for net shot attempts when they're on the ice (SAT - now that the NHL has renamed Corsi):
LINK

1) Tarasenko
2) Berglund
3) Stastny
4) Jaskin

There's a reason our 3rd line is driving possession, and it has a lot to do with the highest paid "3rd line center" in the NHL. I have no problem with Stastny's play, minus his hesitation to pull the trigger when he gets an open look. The fact that Stastny has made Jaskin and Berglund valuable players is worth half his salary alone, his ability to jump up to the first or second line at any time makes him incredibly important in the playoffs.

++ to all the above. At the start of the year, I was hoping that Lehtera would make a good 3rd line center, and he basically does, but he has great chemistry with one of the best goal scorers in the league, so you just let that happen and smile your way to the playoffs.

If Stastny plays with Senko and Schwartz, I easily see a 20 goal, 70 point player.

That was an entertaining game but I would've liked to see the refs get involved a bit more as there were way to many questionable hits thrown. That Jets team reminds me a lot of the Blues a few years back.
