* Didn't follow up on their Title IX obligation to investigate (FSU)JunkBondTrader wrote:This is not characterizing the situation correctly, in my opinion.Vidor wrote:Meanwhile, it looks like the girl who accused Jameis Winston did not change her mind about pressing charges. Here's a really depressing story about how the authorities at FSU tried to cover this up.
Edit: That is to say, just because the University didn't complete its own thorough independent investigation within 60 days, doesn't mean that it is actively trying to cover up the incident. I mean, which authorities at FSU that are trying to cover this up? What is that based on?
* Told the girl that Tallahassee is "a big football town" and that she should think twice (this was the Tallahassee PD, it seems)
* Stalled on the DNA test (also the Tallahassee PD)
* Told Winston's lawyer without even giving the girl a heads-up (also the Talllahassee PD)
* Fabricated the story about the woman changing her mind (Tallahassee city manager)
* Launched an online campaign of harrassment and character assassination (Florida State fans)
So, fine, how much of this is directly attributable to Florida State University is not yet clear. But it seems to strain credulity that the Tallahassee PD decided to stall this investigation on their own hook, or the Tallahassee city manager fabricated that story on his own initiative.
Super-ugly story in any case. Should be a fun Heisman Trophy ceremony.
