Imagine how much more anxiety there would be if Jason Heyward was toting his .180 average in AZ to a spring training locale 6 feet above sea level...

Jason Motte will likely miss the start of the season due to a shoulder strain.
The specifics of the injury aren't yet known, but this should remove any question that Jake McGee will open the season as Colorado's closer. Motte signed a two-year, $10 million contract with the Rockies over the winter.

The Red Sox plan to pair Ryan Hanigan with Joe Kelly early in the season.
They developed a good rapport last season and Red Sox manager John Farrell wants to keep it going. Hanigan could make more starts, but Blake Swihart is expected to handle most of the catching duties this season.

So he never made it out of the low minors but this guy's story is interesting. I find myself rooting for him despite being a Brewer.

reunited with his bash brother
Angels signed OF Shane Robinson to a minor league contract.
Robinson caught on quickly after being released by the Indians on Tuesday. The Angels have a spotty situation in left field, so it's possible he'll eventually see some time with the big club. Mar 31 - 4:43 PM

Mark Reynolds continued his big spring Thursday with a solo homer and an RBI single against the Diamondbacks.
Reynolds is batting .362 with three home runs and a 1.061 OPS during Cactus League action. The expectation was that Ben Paulsen would have the edge for playing time at first base going into 2016, but Reynolds could be playing himself into a bigger role initially. Making decisions based off spring training numbers can be silly and a team like the Rockies should be going with the younger player over proven mediocrity, but it’s not like we’re used to seeing this franchise convey a clear plan.
