Is anyone besides me curious as to why they felt the need to remake The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo even though it only came out two or three years ago in Swedish? (And was really good.)

No.

Americans don't think much of foreign films.

Same deal with "Let the Right One In"...Perfect original but remade for American audiences.

I'm not surprised they did it, but I am surprised David Fincher is doing it (vs. something else) which makes me curious enough to see it.

It's out. I'd have liked it a lot more had I not seen the original...Not a bad job.
