Villanueva signs a one-year deal with the Padres.

Limited opportunities, I know, but he did a good job for us and deserves credit for that. Hope he does well for SD.

I was eating a late dinner and sat down in front of the TV. Checked out the GB / AZ playoff game and then, when it went to commercial, surfed past Antenna TV and stopped when I recognized it was an old Johnny Carson with Don Rickles. And who is sitting next to Rickles but Lou Brock! And Rickles was insulting him just like he did with everyone else. Good stuff.

Google tells me it must be the September 1, 1977 show. And it also told me Antenna TV just started airing full Carson shows at the first of the year. First time since he went dark in 1992.

YouTube doesnt have any clips so if anyone is interested on the Left Coast, maybe it will air in an hour or so and you can record it.

Todd Zolecki of MLB.com writes that Peter Bourjos is expected to have one of the starting jobs in the Phillies' outfield.
It's a bit of a surprise given Bourjos' horrid .218/.292/.342 batting line over the last two seasons. However, he does offer terrific defense and it's not as if the Phillies are overflowing with outfield options. Odubel Herrera will also have a starting job, with Aaron Altherr having the edge over Cody Asche and Tyler Goeddel for the third spot.

I guess Phillies fans don't want to hear about Cardinals fans complaining about their teams offseason.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal says the Indians "still could" add a position player this winter and free agent third baseman David Freese is among the options.
Cleveland is also displaying some amount of interest in Juan Uribe. Freese has struggled to build a market for himself this offseason even though his free agency is not tied to draft pick compensation. The 32-year-old posted a decent .743 OPS with 14 home runs and 56 RBI in 121 games last summer for the Angels. Giovanny Urshela is currently projected to open the 2016 season as the Indians' starter at third base and he is very good defensively, but his bat is still in the developmental stages.
