Sorry, clement. I went to college in Texas during the '70s, and am merely a product of my environment.clement wrote:I thought it was supposed to be the first one to reach 10 votes?
Radbird! I rescind all of my musical recommendations to you after your shameful support for Legs, Tushes (or "Touches", lol), and Pearl Necklaces!
There oughta be a way to measure degree of liking. Seems like bands like the Clash and the Smiths can't make it very far because there are lots of people who don't really know their stuff, but the passion of their smaller fan base is much more intense. Heck, there were about 5 or 6 people arguing emphatically about the Smiths getting into this tourney. But I have no doubt that they would have been first round exit against just about any other band in this competition... I don't think the Smiths ever sold any significant amount of records to speak of, at least not in the U.S.
I am fairly trainable for an old coot, though.

That is ZZTop's carcass being chewed on...

Eh, I tried barking up that tree in the last ZZ Top/Clash thread, but didn't have much luck.clement wrote: Seems like bands like the Clash and the Smiths can't make it very far because there are lots of people who don't really know their stuff, but the passion of their smaller fan base is much more intense.
My informed vote went to The Clash.

My vote was quite informed. I have a pretty deep Clash collection. As I said, I came of age with the sharp-dressed men and that bond could not be broken (at least not with this matchup anyway).maddash wrote:Eh, I tried barking up that tree in the last ZZ Top/Clash thread, but didn't have much luck.clement wrote: Seems like bands like the Clash and the Smiths can't make it very far because there are lots of people who don't really know their stuff, but the passion of their smaller fan base is much more intense.Informed or not (many times not), people have a right to vote.
My informed vote went to The Clash.
And I'm studying up on the Smiths so I can figure out where I stand on them before they come up for a vote.

That, I like to hear.
I don't mind when someone votes for a band that I didn't vote for, as long as they've fairly compared the two and made an informed vote. I know this tourney is just for fun and all, but uninformed votes go against my sensibilities of fairness.
Believe me, when Radiohead goes up against the next band, and people say "I don't know Radiohead so I'm voting for the other band", there will be people jumping on my bandwagon.
