The people at the donut shop are all mexican. It is so weird to eat tacos while the air around you is just hazy with the smell of donuts and sugar.
Also, there are tons of those street tacos (your first picture) served in st. louis.

I work with a bunch of Mexicans, but it's not like Chicago.
Cherokee St has good Mexican food and I like Peublo Solis. There isn't any good Tex Mex to speak of though.

I doubt there are any good Mexican places in St. Louis because there aren't any Mexicans. You can't even manage to do Italian right with the Italian population, how are you going to do Mexican?

I would eat soup and salad lunch at Macaroni Grill once a week for 13-14 weeks to use the card.

The tacos in A) look good. They just need some cheese and habanero salsa.

Re: rant: fine dining
I have to put in a shameless plug...The food scene here only has a few bright spots, but one of them is the number of good, local, Mexican restaurants here. Just by my workplace there are 4 within walking distance and another 2 within a 5 minute drive. Within a 15 minute drive there are easily another 8 to 10, probably more I don't even know about. Seems like another one pops up every few months. Some are better than others, but it depends what you are looking for. They range from the very authentic hole-in-the-wall places attached to a Mexican grocery store to the popular ones that have polished things up a bit and expanded into local chains.jim wrote:I hate to be a food snob, but I seriously doubt that. Salsa you will get - usually a variety of choices at your table. But not cheese usually. I'm sure there are places that use cheese, but the places I go it's just the meat, cilantro if you want it, and then you add your favorite salsa. The soft shell is a nice convenience for eating. In fact tortillas in general are used more as an edible eating utensil than anything. Breakfast with scrambled eggs and whatever meat you want won't even be served with eating utensils. You take a tortilla in your hand kind of like a glove and just reach in and grab some eggs. Then take a bottle of salsa and a couple of squirts and that's it.Radbird wrote:The tacos in A) look good.
