I usually agree that position doesnt matter, however when drafting older college players it would be best if they are on the good side of the defensive spectrum. I know the Cards are getting a ton of production from older (from college) 1B in the minors from their last few drafts. These players despite their great numbers really dont have any value to the Cardinals. And the amount of suitors in trades is limited because most teams have superstars or older stars at 1B. I feel like an athletic catcher can be moved to other places. If you are drafting a high school player, I wouldnt pay attention to the position because by the time they may work their way through the system the position may be vacant at the major league level.Fat Strat wrote:Personally, I don't think position matters much in the draft. For those interested this is info on how late the draft will go and what time its starts tomorrow.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.–There is finally some concrete word on just how long the draft will last today.MLB plans to draft up until 8:30 EDT, regardless of round. Of course, they’ll finish the round they’re in, but will not start another round after 8:30 tonight.
Also, the draft will resume at 11:30 am EDT tomorrow, and one MLB source I spoke with confirmed what Baseball America speculated earlier this spring, that several clubs will continue drafting all the way through the 50th and final round. Tomorrow’s session could last as late as 9-10 pm.

Some guys believe Moustakas is better than Vitters. Both are damn good players, that definately throws a wrench into some teams plans.BW23 wrote:jdk...I guess you saw the other stuff posted at BA.
Mike Moustakas to the Royals.
That throws everyone off already. It leaves Vitters for the Cubs even though they were attempting to work out a deal for Parker.

Cardinals have a list of 14 players that they want at 14. Here are some hints that Lunhow gave.
There are several high school pitchers on the list.
David Price is on there, even though he’s universally expected to go No. 1.
There are some players that “pundits” would find surprising.
As quoted in today’s article, there are some players the Cardinals think they could tinker with something to make them major leaguers.

Ugh!! Sounds like the Kip Wells/Jason Marquis theory is trickling its way down into the draft strategy.
