Blues need a scoring line center who can elevate some wingers BAD.
No biggie, only one of the most difficult pieces to find.
Hopefully in a few years one of the kids emerges.
Bingo. Dvorsky is the hope, here, right?
I think even within this season, you see the result with Faksa out. He's been pretty good for a 3rd/4th line center. That WTF line really had some momentum there for a while.
It sounds like Faksa's injury was pretty scary. Skate to the groin, deep cut that nearly missed an artery. They said on last night's TV broadcast that he needed internal and external stitches.

Yikes that injury sounds scary. I saw an article somewhere (I think bleedinblue or one of the fansided ones) which talked about faksa’s absence being a pretty big deal. Second best fo% of the regulars and pretty darn solid advanced stats, considering he often takes defensive zone draws.
Dvorsky is the big hope but who knows. Maybe a kid emerges. Maybe enough wingers emerge that we can trade 1 or 2 for a center? I’m still just enjoying whatever I can this year and next and hope the kids develop.

Was hearing a lot of smoke around a saad trade before the freeze and nada since. It would be nice for saad to play in the classic since the bulk of his career has been with both teams, but if you get a second (plus) for him you jump on it even if it’s 10 min to game time.

Yeah, totally agree.

Fits and starts...
One of the most entertaining games I can remember in a couple of years Friday night against Nashville, and then... Another game playing down to a much worse opponent in Buffalo. WTF.
In both games, we took too many penalties and weren't good on the PK. Against NSH, we scored more than enough to overcome the PK deficiency. Against BUF, we really struggled to put in goals despite leading in all the in-game metrics (possession time, SOG, chances, etc.). Maybe the Buffalo game was just one of those nights, but it was still frustrating.

During a 4-2 loss to the Sabres on Sunday afternoon, the Blues did enough to generate scoring chances at even strength, to twist the dial in their favor, to control the ice for long stretches. But struggles with special teams cost the Blues, as they went 0 for 4 on the power play while Buffalo scored twice on the man-advantage.
“It’s frustrating,” Blues coach Jim Montgomery said. “We did a lot of good things five on five. Bottom line for this game is our game management, especially in the third period, wasn’t good enough. Our special teams were not good enough.”
Overall, the Blues had a 37-16 edge in shots on goal and a 74-27 edge in shot attempts. At five on five, they allowed just 19 shot attempts, which was the second-fewest in the entire NHL this season and the fewest allowed by the Blues in more than five years. Puck possession heavily favored them. So did high-danger chances. So did faceoffs.
That's a game they should ABSOLUTELY be winning. UGH

Yeah, that’s one of those you win 19 out of 20. Sucks.
Put it behind them and go out tomorrow and keep Chicago winless in classics!

A fun two days between Mizzou’s bowl win and the Blues spanking the Hawks in the classic (again!)
So fun that Fowler got the first goal of the game in his 1000th game (and another goal later).
More goals from kyrou and the kids. Where would we be without the Holloway and broberg deals? That single (er, double) move(s) might have legitimately knocked a year or two off the rebuild.
Texier scores but gets under 10 minutes. I wonder if the saad trade rumors are really more about getting Tex more minutes.
Ended the year somehow over 500. Long way to go to grab a playoff spot, but they’re genuinely fun to watch!

I do question the NHLs New Years scheduling though. Why would you schedule the marquee game of The Winter Classic on NYE on the day that 13 NHL takes place but only 1 game on NYD with the Kings vs. Devils in a regular game all by itself. Shouldn't the Winter Classic be on the day that it was the only game taking place?
