i think GRB does a pretty good job of policing itself, for the most part.

are you joking or being serious? the mods have repeatedly said to use this function if you have an issue with someone. you should use it if you are being serious..but it sounds like you are poo-pooing on it.

i use it a lot for spam threads. and ICE when he was spoiling star wars
Serious. I'll bet 95% of the people on here would not use that. I used it once because I was irritated at the mods for something and spammed them with reports. ghost got pissed at me. It was kind of funny to me but then again my humor doesn't always play well sometimes.

edit - I just had to hunt for it and could not even find it for a second. I know it's there but I'm guessing like many it doesn't stand out so you don't really consciously think about it.

fair enough but it sounds a little like a self-fulfilling prophecy to me.

i'm glad you are concerned because it means you care about the board, as do i. it's definitely part of my (work) day routine and i get a lot of good info. or just random links i wouldn't find normally. or gifs. to me its a nicer/calmer version of google, in a sense, which ultimately im only using to talk baseball/cardinals but can serve a few other functions (not worded well that sentence, nor this clarification). the board may lean left but i dunno, progressiveness isn't mandated in any of the rules and politics certainly isn't the focus of the board (or at least its not meant to be). just like cards talk was more to the right. we're all doing personas, like big time wrestling. sometimes things can get unnecessarily hot but sometimes they do with people in real life too. i'm rambling now but i do think theres a perfect storm aspect to this.

Probably. And I feel better, probably because I've noticed a heartbeat in BT the last day or so. And who knows, maybe everyone will take a collective deep breath the next time they decide to write some crappy thing. I don't know what peoples "rules" are for themselves, but for me it's simply would I say this to a persons face? Again, I completely understand there is context missing (80% of communication is non-verbal or something like that?), so I realize it's very possible and inevitable that things will be misread. But once in a while I read something and I think someone couldn't possibly have that same rule, because they would end up getting punched in the mouth if they said that to someone.

Pm'ing a mod works too, it just limits the number of people who see it. From the mod side, the report button works and some people do use it. I will say I sometimes have to wait, because addressing someone's complaint takes a bit of doing. I think we mods like to consult with one another just to check ourselves, and we have to wait for another mod or two to be online and respond to that.

I'm going to try and be a little more proactive though. This is just speaking for myself, but being in a position of "authority" - even to this small extent - it can muddle your judgement. You don't want to overreact and tick people off, because you could be casting your personal bias on the situation. If I don't like a poster, or there's some history, I prefer another mod deal with it. But sometimes it's not possible. I publicly confronted Steve on something once or twice, and he got up in arms over it because I was a mod. I didn't intend it as any sort of official GRB position, but that's how he took it. So I'd ask someone else to deal with it if I felt he crossed a line, or someone crossed a line with him. The wheels of mod justice work slowly sometimes, and maybe too slowly. Also, I think we generally like to err on the side of letting things be.

You hurt me with such evil name calling. I don't know how I will ever get over the pain you have caused me....

I am over it.
