We got a gift card either last Christmas or the one before to Applebee's. Both had absolutely horrid meals. I had something called riblets - if you had to decide which were real ribs between those and McRibs, you go with McDonalds every time.

Still have $26 on the gift card, but don't think I want to try anything else on the menu. Maybe I could just go have a few brews.

We down scaled it a little tonight, went to a little family place ran by some Albanians or some god damned place. They had burgers and meatloaf and about hundred other [expletive] things on the menu. I ordered the shrimp stir fry - which basically was 6 shrimp, some vegies, a half a gallon of Terryaki, and a pound of salt. I have cotton mouth like a mother [expletive] right now. These mother [expletive] working at this place are dying to get promoted to Applebees.

So I just told the wife I'm done. No more restaurants except for two Mexican joints near us plus Jimmy Johns for lunch, and of course Red Lobster. That's it. [expletive] it. I'm tired of throwing money away at restaurants. Enough is enough.

She is. She agrees completely, the new town we are in is terrible for restaurants. They can't even do take out Chinese correctly. It's a cuisinery wasteland.

It certainly must be if Red Lobster is a viable option.

My father in law's step father (i know...), god bless him, always gets something for my wife and I at Christmas. He's a really kind man, but mostly senile and can't hear anymore. My wife and I aren't really his family, so I can't complain that he gets us anything at all - he doesn't have to do that. Again, very kind old man.

But two years in a row now he's given us a $50 Macaroni Grill gift card. There's no Macaroni Grill near us. We've never gone to a Macaroni Grill together. We don't want to drive 15 miles to a Macaroni Grill.

What the [expletive] do we do with $100 worth of Macaroni Grill giftcards?

The same people who own macaroni grill own other places like chilis/on the border, so you may be able to use them there?

Still [expletive] food, but at least more choices...

Or just go to one of the places and drink expensive (if they have them) drinks

That's your problem. You can't go to a family diner like that and order anything but breakfast food or a sandwich and expect it to be anything but dog [expletive].

There is a donut shop on Dorsett that serves amazing tacos.

I hate to be a food snob, but I seriously doubt that. First of all, the taco's in most restaurant aren't even taco's. Do they look like:

A)

or B)

I don't know what B) is, but it's not a taco.

I doubt there are any good Mexican places in St. Louis because there aren't any Mexicans. You can't even manage to do Italian right with the Italian population, how are you going to do Mexican?
