I don't know how we might get the jump on NYRB unless we hold an IOU from Dempsey, but I'd take him. Garber has a throbber for NY, Henry and Cahill (I think) are out, and with all the attention the new NY team is getting plus Jozy's history there it seems like a bone that would get thrown to them. However if Jozy wants Portland that's what will happen. I sure hope that's the case..

Sounds like TFC are having a hard time finding a buyer for Defoe, which is what getting Jozy probably hinges on. I want him to go to Portland. I think he's exactly what y'all have been missing.

From what I have been reading MLS is not offering the top young US players enough $$. Are they spending the money on imports or what?

Kristo signs with a Serie B team. Yaro not offered enough to leave school- in fairness, he wants to be President of Ghana so finishing his degree matters. They give a couple other examples.

The upcoming labor negotiations are going to be big for the future of the league. It's not necessarily foreigners with the top-heavy wages. The most overpaid players in the league are guys like Michael Bradley, Omar Gonzalez, Clint Dempsey and now Jozy Altidore. Not saying they aren't valuable players, especially in MLS, but it's not just the Kaka's and Keane's of the world getting millions more than their teammates.

They need to raise the minimum salary desperately. Right now I believe it's around 36k. Raise the salary cap, raise minimum salaries and work towards abolishing the single-entity ownership system.
