22 years ago today, the Cardinals traded Kent Bottenfield and Adam Kennedy to the Angels for Jim Edmonds. See why the Angels were looking to deal Edmonds and how Kennedy proved key to making the trade happen:

On this date in 1959, the Cardinals and Giants made a deal that sent ace pitcher Sam Jones to the Giants for 25-year-old first baseman Bill White. White became an 8-time all-star and 6-time Gold Glove winner with the Cardinals.

Nine years ago today, the Cardinals signed Adam Wainwright to a 5-year extension worth $97.5 million. During that term, he twice placed in the top 3 of the Cy Young voting, but also missed most of two seasons with Achilles and elbow surgeries. See what Wainwright and the Cardinals said the day the deal was signed:

Anyone remember reliever Jeff Lahti?

On April 1, 1982, the Cardinals acquired Lahti in a trade with the Reds. Lahti became a valuable bullpen piece, first serving as a bridge to closer Bruce Sutter, then leading the team with 19 saves in 1985.

Tomorrow will mark 29 years since the Cardinals traded pitcher Mark Clark and minor-league infielder Juan Andujar to the Indians for toolsy outfielder Mark Whiten.

See why the tragedy-stricken Indians made the trade and why the Cardinals were intrigued by Whiten's potential:

And I [expletive] every time I saw Andy Van Slyke for the next seven years as he improved his performance over any of his St. Louis seasons. It wasn't quite on the Carlton trade level but it was close. Hurt more since he stayed in the division and you were reminded of the bad trade over and over again.

I didn't like that we traded Van Slyke but I liked Pena when I was a kid. Mixed bag.
