There are a few GM's who have already done what he's done, with fewer resources........... so "probably not" is not the correct answer.
Who?
You're not gonna burst into flames if you say Theo is good at what he does.

Read the thread. I've already said that Theo is good. Probably 2 or 3 times.

You're not gonna burst into flames if you admit that he's been pretty fortunate to not have to rebuild a team that doesn't have the resources of the Red Sox or Cubs.

Which GMs have done what he's done?

All you've done is put qualifiers before any Theo praise.

Pat Gillick was a great GM. He's been successful everywhere he's gone, and has a couple of WS. So was John Schuerholz. Jocketty had an incredible run. What Billy Beane did with the A's was incredible. Dayton Moore has been great.

You gotta remember that Theo had Terry Francona in Boston. Francona doesn't get enough credit. In fact, Francona came within an eyelash of beating Theo in the WS last year.......... with half of the payroll.

Dan Duquette should get much of the credit for the 2004 Red Sox, actually. He signed or traded for Tim Wakefield, Johnny Damon, Jason Varitek, Manny Ramirez, Derek Lowe, and Kevin Youkilis. Pretty much the core of that team was his, not Theo's.

What? It's OK to say that Theo is good, without worshipping the ground that he walks on. Pioneer was essentially making the same point.

Back to your old self, I see, ICE. It was just a matter of time.

Actually, the best counter-argument is that Theo hired Terry Francona............ but it's too late for that now.

Yes, I'm the worst.

now we wait for socnorb to take the opposing position...

What is your point, ICE? Theo is far and away the best executive in the game? That can be your opinion. I think backwards broncos is plenty entitled to his opinion that he's good, but also incredibly fortunate to have ran the teams that he has.

Curses and all, the Red Sox and Cubs have incredible resources at their disposal. Good on Theo for putting the puzzles together where everyone else failed.

Ok this is funny. The replies by Cubs fans are funnier.
