Between Wall Street bonuses and funding auto plant expansions abroad, I am starting to hope we see the end of federal taxpayer bailouts.

I recently read a National Geographic article on gold that comes from the third world.

This nugget of info was hard to believe.
In all of history, only 161,000 tons of gold have been mined, barely enough to fill two Olympic-size swimming pools. More than half of that has been extracted in the past 50 years. Now the world's richest deposits are fast being depleted, and new discoveries are rare.
Two big swimming pools full- I never would have guessed that little. Apparantly the demand for gold is greater than ever - used in electronics, but also its viewed as a cultural necessity in growing India.

I have noticed lately an absence of cars parked in front of my house during the day. We live only about a block from a fairly busy retail area on Clark St with lots of little shops for consumers. Our street is usually full all the time. Now it looks empty. Not good.

No worries, if they are going to refurbish the electrical grid in this country, they will need lots of copper.

A cultural necessity? What's that about?

I thought they used aluminum for that.

I honestly don't know...I was just trying to make you feel better about your copper purchases.
