CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Diamondbacks have signed infielder Nick Punto.
No word yet on the terms involved. Punto, 37, was released by the Athletics last month after batting just .207/.296/.293 over 73 games in 2014. He figures to function as a utility infielder with Arizona.

Rick Ankiel has joined the Nationals' minor league staff as a "life skills coordinator."
It might sound like a silly job title, but Ankiel went through many ups and downs throughout his childhood and baseball career so it really is a perfect fit. The 35-year-old officially retired from baseball last summer after 11 major league seasons. He went from a top pitching prospect to a 25-homer outfielder. Incredible stuff.

Royals sent INF Ryan Jackson outright to Triple-A Omaha.
Jackson had been designated for assignment, but he cleared waivers and will remain in the organization. The 26-year-old was limited to just 11 games in the minors last season due to wrist surgery.

You are correct.

But speaking of Mather, he was just named manager of the Missoula Osprey, the Diamondbacks' rookie ball affiliate.
