mother [expletive]...
Cardinals recalled RHP Matt Bowman from Triple-A Memphis.

Bowman will return to the Cardinals' bullpen ahead of Thursday's series opener at Wrigley Field. The 27-year-old right-hander holds an ugly 5.75 ERA in 20 appearances this season at the major league level.

Maybe this is the front office testing Shildt to see if he's worthy of being in the running for the permanent job.

If he runs Bowman out there when he's not the absolute last man available, including position players on the bench, then they know he definitely isn't the one.

Bowman is weird. Has a killer walk rate and HR/FB rate in minors and even previous major league years but this year at MLB level, he's just so awful. I don't know what the deal is...

His fastball is getting hit hard and that was a plus pitch the last two years.

I thought we were in 2003 territory. That was a painful year to get through.

We won't break the record. But I think there's a decent chance this team finishes 2nd all time for Cardinals worst bullpens.

Which seems pretty remarkable since bullpens are typically better nowadays given the abundance of relievers throwing in the mid 90s.

Just a complete organizational failure that has helped submarine this season (which unfortunately, was very predictable on opening day).

I think that's the way to say it -- a complete organizational failure.

Monday's loss marked the 10th consecutive game the Cardinals' pen has allowed at least one earned run. The relief corps has combined for a 9.61 ERA during that stretch. The team has gone 3-7. Relievers have allowed 37 earned runs in 34.2 innings pitched dating back to a July 11 loss to the White Sox.

Who you keeping from this bullpen? We already know who goes.

Hicks
Brebbia
Mayers
Tuivailala is on the fringe

Gregerson and Cecil can't be in the plan going forward.

Norris needs to be traded ASAP to a contender for a prospect.
