Flaherty’s command has been excellent tonight. That’s what will make him into an impact pitcher or not.

Flaherty at about 77 pitches through 4; he will have to be very efficient in the fifth to make it through six.

Don't remember where I read it, but as I recall, it's a habit from his younger years as a catcher.

EDIT: People used to accuse Willie Mays of hotdogging with his "basket catch", but that's what Willie was most comfortable doing, & felt he was able get get his thows off better.
I think Fowler's feelings may be similar.
