I don't know how you can be so sure about that. You might be right but your certitude puzzles me.
The Cubs have never, in their history, been viewed as a more attractive franchise or destination than the Cardinals. It's really that simple. Add in what happened this season -- with the Cubs being absolutely abysmal and the Cards winning the WS -- and I don't see why there's even a discussion about this.
The media talks about the Cubs a lot and they're in Chicago... those are the only reasons why anyone pays any attention to the Cubs at all.

I wonder if this puts even more pressure on the organization to get a deal done with AP? Does it make them "expand their zone" so as to not loose two Cardinal "Legends" at once?

Pujols isn't going to make his decision based on TLR. He's going to sign a long-term deal. LaRussa wouldn't have been around for it.

That's kind of what I think. I don't know how much this impacts his decision, unless the club picks someone that Albert already knows he doesn't like.
Kurkjian threw Bobby Valentine's name out there as "best guy available". Wow. Just wow.

The Cubs are not more attractive than the Cards right now. No way. And it's not even close.
MLB managers don't want lower expectations. They want talent and a front office that will do what it takes to win. The Cubs are probably 2-3 seasons away from being in contention. The Cards, almost regardless of what happens with Albert, will probably be the odds on favorite to come out of the NL again. Howard is out for Philly. Milwaukee is losing Prince. We get Wainwright back.
Not to mention the fact that the Cards have the second most championships in MLB history and have spend the last 15 years winning, winning, winning, and winning some more. There's not a single team in the NL that has won more games and playoff games than the Cardinals over the past 15-40 years.

Really it just depends on the individual but I would think that most managers would want to win now as opposed to helping build a team for a few decades.
Fixed? Or is that too optimistic?
