dreamer, when you say you used to run a mile in just over 5 minutes do you mean like 7? Because if you are talking about low 5's that's pretty impressive. My son broke 5 his Soph. year and that was a pretty big deal on the team. They had these sub-5 t-shirts they gave away to motivate kids, that was kind of the magic time (although the really good runners were in the 4:30's.) When I was younger the fastest I ever did for a long run was a 2:35 1/2 mile. Had I continued to run another 1/2 mile that day, my mile time would have been around 22:35 because I spent the next 20 minutes throwing up. And I'm not kidding, we had to break 2:35 for some fitness test in football in HS and I barely got it and I really did vomit within 10 seconds of crossing the line. Had I missed that time I was supposed to have to run it again the next morning at 6am, and I'm pretty sure I just would have quit because that was awful.
My best was 5:30 I think. I was the seventh fastest on the track team. :( I didn't even get to run at regionals because they only let the top two run. I was something in high school until I started getting knee injuries. Great football player, great baseball player, I went to state for discus. Then came the knee injuries. I made the football team in college but more injuries and I never saw a bit of playing time. By the middle of college I realized I was busting my ass for something I'd never get to play and quit. I stayed in a good shape for a little while after that but by the end of college the fat started packing on and here we are 10 years later and I look like a land whale. Looking back I'm seriously pissed at not staying in shape, but it is what it is and now I gotta get back in shape. I'll never run a mile any where near that again. I know it, but if I can walk one in 15 minutes by spring I'd be pretty damn happy.

I attribute me being a good athlete as a young man to being a farm boy. Bucking bales all summer, and chopping wood all winter makes you pretty damn tough. I also started lifting and training for football when I was in the sixth grade. That was all so long ago though.

[expletive] spin nazi [expletive] this morning. This is my 4th class with 4 different instructors and this one sucked. "OK YOU AREN"T COMING BACK TO THIS LEVEL! IT BURNS DOESN"T IT> OK ADD RESISTANCE". "OK INTERVAL OVER NOW OUT OF THE SADDLE BUT KEEP THE RESISTANCE UP".

Hey [expletive] - what about reducing resistence. Out of the saddle is not a recovery. How about some [expletive] water? How about when you say we are doing 6 intervals we don't do 10?

[expletive].

Best I ever ran the mile was 5:17 and that was all I had. We had a kid running mid-4's so I never thought too much about my times.

Jim, we had a Russian power lifter in the weight program in college and he'd yell [expletive] in Russian at you that you had no idea what he was saying but you knew it equated to, "Hey weak ass if you ever want to get off scout lift more weight [expletive]!"

Had a blood test/health panel done as part of a work perk and some of the numbers came back jacked up. Took my results to my doc to see what he thought about it. He explained that the problem is that I'm so fat even my liver is fat. Prescription: lose 30 pounds and come see me next year.

So, here we go. Logged back into Sparkpeople for the first time in 2 years and went out and got me a Fitbit. This Fitbit is really slick. Anyone else got one? If enough people are using them we could put together a GRB group and compete for step count supremacy.

If all goes well maybe I'll do the Warrior Dash in October. That's a long way from my current exercise routine of walking.

Got a work physical the other day, bloodwork, hearing, vision, EKG etc. Forgot to shave my chest for the EKG so that sucked. Anyway, took a look at the 12 Lead EKG after they were done and this is what I saw

What was funny is that the MD didn't even say anything about that. Good thing I know how to read an EKG.

Infarct means heart attack. Septal means in the wall between the left and right sides of your heart. She probably should have addressed it since it does mean FREAKIN HEART ATTACK and someone who can't read EKGs and doesn't know that the machines incorrectly interpret a fair amount of the time might be a little concerned about it.
Hell, I was a tiny bit concerned.
