Re: Book thread
I just read Liar's Poker after reading The Big Short last summer. Man, I just love Michael Lewis.
I always thought Dash Riprock was some local band in Nashville. Now I know the real Dash Riprock. And the Human Pirana. What a great character.
Michael Lewis could have made a mint selling bonds, stocks, or whatever. But he chucked it to make a mint writing books. God bless him. Would love to meet him someday.

I'm only about a third of the way through it but "Born To Run" is fascinating.

Reads like a long magazine article, but it's a fun theory nonetheless. Made me want to run an ultra. I didn't, but I was interested for the 2 weeks I read Born To Run.07come11 wrote:I'm only about a third of the way through it but "Born To Run" is fascinating.

I'm not sure about running an ultra, but I am giving a serious consideration to calling myself el Caballo Blanco.

Just finished "Cloud Atlas" by David Mitchell and it is a stunning work. Mitchell is a bit of a conceptual showoff (the book is in the form of several seemingly unrelated stories that nest within one another, interrupting each other before they all tie-in together) but it's a really enjoyable and audacious read.

I'm re-reading Ball Four. I highly recommend this book. I got arrested when I was 15 because of this damn book. One of the more influential books in my life.

Wha? The book actually spans several hundred years, possibly a thousand. And a whopping total of 0 of the 6 narratives focus on "love." Will it be Matrixy? I see little chance of this being a good movie, but what the hell, I'll go see it. The book really is great.
