Illinois outplayed Mizzou? Mizzou was blowing them out and was in control for a huge majority of the game. Illinois had a 2nd half flurry to make it look closer than it really was. Actually, it was a LOT like the Mizzou-KU game last night.

That's not to take anything away from Illinois, either. It did end up being a game in the 4th quarter. You could tell that day that the Illini had started to turn the corner. But they did not outplay Mizzou.

Strictly from a yardage standpoint. Turnovers killed Illinois (but that's part of the game, so you can't take that away from Missouri).

A healthy Juice would've been interesting to see. Luckily for Mizzou, he got hurt.

That'd be like taking a look at a game in which one team has 11 hits, another has 6, and assuming that the 11-hit team outplayed the 6-hit team.

And yes, as you allude, turnovers killed Illinois. It's a good thing Mizzou forced them.

And on top of all of that, it's sort of silly to look at yardage as an indicator of who outplayed who. You don't think that Mizzou was running a different kind of offense with a 24 point lead? Or a different kind of defense, conceding yards but not big plays?

As for Juice and his injury..... Mizzou forced both Juice and McGee into dumb decisions and turned time from both QB's into the rout early on. McGee was the one that brought them back.

I was just looking beyond the final score. That's all. I didn't mean to be silly. Obviously Missouri had something to do with the turnovers, but when you get five of them, then I think the other team is just not focused, to some degree. I already stated that you can't take that away from Missouri, because it's part of the game. I'll state it again.

The best thing about seeing the Mizzou folks on top of the world is the re-assurance that it won't last long.

Juice was 6 of 9 while he was in there, so I'm not sure you can say he "definitely" wasn't going to make the throws.

Throwing 2 interceptions in Missouri territory really killed Illinois' chances. McGee also dropped a ball on Missouri's 3 yard line that Missouri picked up for a touchdown (14 point swing). Another fumble on the Tigers' 37 yard line. All in all, 4 turnovers for McGee in Missouri territory. It's hard to imagine that Juice couldn't have done better, but that's the way it goes. Missouri earned the win. Too many mistakes by Illinois.

Also not to be lost in the discussion, but if Illinois played Ohio State in Columbus 10 times, Ohio State would win that game 9 times out of 10. As it played out, Illinois won.

Mizzou is better than Illinois, and they proved it on the field. Ohio State is also better than Illinois, even though they did not prove it on the field. I don't think we can accurately use Illinois--the only common opponent--as any sort of barometer about the relative quality of Mizzou vs. Ohio State. You can't even do that within a conference. Michigan beat Illinois on the road. Illinois beat Ohio State on the road. Ohio State beat Michigan on the road. (They all beat Penn State. )
