According to SI via Jon Heyman, the Mets are expected to meet with Scott Boras to discuss Matt Holliday...
I guess this lends more credibility to the ESPN 5 year contract...I wonder what the Cards offered him 5yr/$75 million?
I'm not making the connection here.
Sorry...The original 8 year deal that was reported was between $14-$16 million a year. I was just taking the dollar amount and putting it towards a 5 year deal...just for conversation starters.
Reading what Bernie has said, makes sense. I'm sure Boras wants an opt-out clause which the Cards might have given him, but I'm also sure that Boras wants more money up front...which I'm not sure the Cards would do. This is all my opinion, BTW.
don't know if its been posted/mentioned, but there is a video on espn.com which has kurkjian basically saying he doesn't think there is another team in play for holliday except for the cardinals...though he does end it with "you never know with boras" talk....fwiw

This is definitely the case, but Boras is not going to let Holliday sign anything before Bay does. Bay's greediness is the holdup.

Almost all high profile free agent negotiations are like this.

At this point I think Boras' worst fear is the Mets signing Bay.
