Police say a man who stole a donation jar from a downtown Seattle business was hit by a bus as he ran away.

They say nobody was chasing him.

The incident happened about 12:10 p.m. in the 800 block of Third Avenue. Police say the bus driver tried to stop, but couldn’t avoid hitting the man. No passengers on the bus were hurt.

The bus driver wasn’t ticketed, though police say they expect to do extensive follow-up investigation and collision reconstruction.

The suspect was rushed to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Police did not have additional information about the suspect Thursday night.

No word on whether the donation jar was returned.

That one brings to mind the story that has been commented on here where the knucklehead stole the tip jar from Starbucks and the Good Samaritan chasing him got run over.
