She's pretty dang conservative, especially on the incindiary issues. That will help McCain, I think anyway, because he isn't republican enough for republicans.
edit: but they were going to grind their teeth and vote for him anyway, so I guess you're right. It will just make them feel a little better about it.
That's a good point. I was thinking more in terms of attracting independents and undecideds. But I think the one area she will help him is with the social conservatives who might have been considering not voting for McCain. Not sure how big that group is though.

That won't sit well with Democrats.
On the contrary. In most people's minds, using protection or learning about different birth control options to avoid unwanted or unplanned pregnancies is behaving responsibly. Government restricting these kinds of things is the ultimate removal of responsibility and putting it squarely on the state.

I'm personally anti-abortion. I just don't think it should be criminalized, therefore I'm pro-choice. And even among most people who put themselves in the pro-life camp, things like using condoms and having access to information about different birth control options are not perceived as bad things.
I was talking about actions in general. I know it was used in reference to sexual activity, but I'm guessing it's that way with everything. Then again, that's basically what many Republicans believe in....personal responsibility.

I think gubernatorial experience does provide things a Senator isn't familiar with - budgets, vetoes, appointments, delegating, having ultimate responsibility, etc... I think it's probably overrated, but I think you can argue her experience is just as relevant as Obama's. I think it is, even if Alaska is small.

So to call it an irresponsible pick is unfair to me. Obama has 3 whole years of practical experience on the national level. I don't see a big difference. And in this case, Obama will actually be the one with responsibility from the beginning where she'll just be in the background.

To make a baseball comparison, sometimes it makes more sense to hire Joe Girardi than Joe Torre. A fresh perspective and approach can be better than experience. I think that's true in Obama's case, and it could be true in Palin's case. We just don't know much about her yet. Her biggest downside with me is issues, since I don't seem to agree with her on much. Though I do like the anti-corruption stuff.

Then I guess Democrats and Republicans have something in common.

personal responsibility and making sure they can control the lives of others....

if you don't want to use birth control that's fine, but dont' believe that you should be able to tell others what they can or can't do...
she believes that birth control is a form of abortion, so how far are we away from the EXTREMIST right wanting to ban birth control? it's a slippery slope, as the right likes to say with Gay marriage...

that's FASCISM...which I'm guessing considering Palin is so far Right she's nearly falling off the stage that she's not too far away from believing that a Fascist government would be the best government...

Palin was an absolutely perfect pick for McCain....a Karl Rovian candidate doesn't make a decision about this unless they absolutely know how it's going to effect the people in rural areas in states like Missouri, people who lack a bit of education (okay, scratch that last part, it's just mean)...

Karl Rove, an advisor to the McCain campaign, has said that this pick isn't a governing pick, it isn't picking the person that would be best qualified to be 2nd in line, its a margins pick...this was the person that they felt, rightfully so I believe, that would pick them up the type of votes they would need from states like Missouri, where people believe things like God tore apart New Orleans b/c of the type of activity that was going on there (one of McCain's supporters, a reverend whose name I don't remember, who McCain actually lobbied for support and then asked to bail out and fall back, made stupid comments just like the one mentioned)...

It's Rovian to perfection...

there was already talk of Palin being a candidate for the Presidency in 2012....that's how much hype surrounds her in the soon-to-be United States of Evangelicals...her hype rivals that of 2006/2007 Obama, and probably even overshadows it...
She is the future of the Republican party, which will hopefully make true Conservatives bail out of the Republican party, or have Palin supporters form a new party called the Moralistic party, where they believe policy isn't about politics, but about morals...

My guess is that the polls in a couple weeks will have McCain finally ahead of Obama solely based upon the policies of gay marriage and abortion...not any real political issues like the economy, education, the War in Iraq or other foreign relations like dealing with another soon Cold War (which will definitely happen if the Repubs have their way)...

8 more years of GWB on steroids...b/c he was awesome...hooray...

actually, if you truly believe in the power of personal responsibility then you should be backing someone like Ron Paul...not a far right Moralist...

I'd take Ron Paul over McCain. I've never been a big McCain fan and when I went to hear him speak in person I was let down a bit more. I actually would have been tempted to vote for Hillary over McCain had she won the nomination. (No, I'm not republican, I'm independent, I tend to lean conservative, tho)

I don't believe Ron Paul will win the Republican nomination. Just a hunch.
