One Brett Cecil contract could probably pay all the concession and stadium workers for a good amount of time. MLB owners, get this done now. Your fans demand it.

If they paid those staff members throughout the shutdown, it would generate enormous goodwill and cost them, like's been said, less than a crappy injured reliever's contract. So will they do it? Of course not.

DeWitt has already promised up to 8% of the $10k he took from Jack Flaherety has been pledged to park attendants, grounds crew and so on. I don't know what else he could possibly do.

Plutocrats have to be careful not to set a precedent of helping people just because things are disastrous and they have so much leverage and power over them and wouldn't possibly miss the money.

If the [expletive] Kroenkes are doing the right thing and paying arena employees during this crisis, I'm sure the Cardinals will too.

I think I have to change my vote. I don't know if there will be a season.

My family is young and relatively healthy. We've canceled visits from our in-laws to promote their health. The kids are fortunately having remote classes with their school this week, and my wife and I are telecommuting. I haven't been to a store in 5 days. For the past week, the family has gone on bike rides (the weather in the DC area has been fantastic), occasionally to talk with neighbors from a distance. Yet, I see teenagers congregating at picnic tables, neighbors huddling in tight groups while their pre-schoolers play, and friends coughing into their hands. You can't tell Americans to do anything. I think this hits America harder than other countries because we cling to our freedom and distrust even our most experienced scientists because they are part of the government.

But I am an optimist. Once the curve continues to spike and it becomes impossible to flatten the curve, our healthcare system will suffer, elderly and immuno-compromised citizens will suffer, the economy will suffer, but eventually there will be baseball.
