We actually had pretty clear skies, fortunately. Totality was astounding. We had it for 3ish minutes and wow. I was not expecting it to be that spectacular.
There was a good pair of comparison pictures I saw somewhere that captured 99% totality vs 100% and it's crazy how different it is. Both on the ground and in the sky. Right until it's blocked, it's still very weird and cool, but the sudden darkness and what you see in the sky takes it to another level.
Also, standard phone cameras have gotten to where they're outstanding for most situations, but they really can't do justice to anything celestial. This reminded me I need to get my good camera fixed.
We drove to near Cape with terrible traffic on the way down and worse traffic on the way back to STL, but the four minutes of totality made the eleven-ish hours of driving worth it.

I saw 99 and not 100 in ‘17. I had a baby in the NICU, otherwise I would have driven just an hour (made 6-7 hours) away. I too heard that there is a big disparity between 100 percent and anything less.
I did get to see the weird light wobble. Here's hoping I don't have a baby in the NICU, or any baby at all, for the next one here in 2044. But traveling to see one of these, especially overseas, would be fun.
We went down to a relatives and camped for the weekend. They have a farm that is surrounded by three sides by the Mark Twain National Forest. It was the perfect spot. I saw totality in 2017 and was in awe so I knew what to expect this time and I was still in awe.
BTW that area of Missouri is beautiful and we had a blast hiking around that weekend.
