Haha, I've only been there once, and got my hat handed to me. I think a lot of people discovered bluegrass don't have to be shrill and whiny like the stereotype from that movie.

Probably dumb to say I'd never heard of Rammstein before the Matrix, but I do like them, although I have no idea what they are talking about. Like most music I guess.

There's a great extended scene in season 2 of Master of None that's set to Soft Cell's "Say Hello Wave Goodbye," and I never knew that song before but I'm now smitten by it.

Maybe a bit of a silly one, but I was 10 years old when Happy Gilmore came out, and that was the first time in my life I'd ever heard "Tuesday's Gone." I knew of Lynyrd Skynyrd because of my dad, but only because of Sweet Home Alabama, which I thought just wasn't a very good song. I've softened on that since, but "Tuesday's Gone" opened me up to the rest of their catalog and really made me appreciate not just Skynyrd, but a lot of Southern rock in its misunderstood glory.

ha, I had the exact same experience/revelation about Skynyrd, but I first heard this song in Dazed and Confused. So I think I win 2 extra coolness points.

it was an unreleased track that was supposed to appear on throwing Copper, but it was left out. i forget why. But it was on the Zack and Miri Make a Porno soundtrack and was impossible to find at the time, but is now widely available.

Townes Van Zandt’s cover of “Dead Flowers” at the end of Big Lebowski led me to a 25 year love affair with his music.

I guess this sorta should be expected, but Hip Hop Evolution has led me to explore several hip hop artists in greater depth.

There have been a few bands that I’ve learned of or gained a better appreciation for after an appearance on SNL. Alabama Shakes and Greta Van Fleet are a couple more (relatively?) recent examples. I know that really damages my cred among the Greta Van Fleet faithful out there.

I'm not a big music person so the real answer is 'most bands/songs', but the one that sticks out is being introduced to MGMT through "Time to Pretend" playing in the opening credits for the movie 21.
