Thanks for the feedback everyone. All great tips. Due diligence is definitely the key and it's not something we're just going to dive into without doing he leg work. zeus--you're comments on the acreage is definitely good to know.
Like i mentioned upthread, there is housing on nearby lots, so i imagine utilities are manageable.

Not trying to make a judgment on your marriage here, go birds, but make sure you have clear lines of communication with your spouse. There are a litany of decisions to be made when building a house. Some of those decisions come with a short timeframe. Just make sure to communicate clearly and honestly (about what you want and don't want) with each other, and have patience. There will be delays. Not everything will go perfectly. You both might have to compromise if something goes awry.
One other bit of advice: It's way easier (and less expensive) to change something on paper than once it's built, or even half-built. You don't want to take forever, but don't rush the design phase. It's well worth figuring things out then instead of later.

Congrats. I really miss Estes Park. I was there for the rock climbing and hiking. Fun place to live. If I could get a job there I would go in a heartbeat. I am seriously jealous.

Absolutely. That's the other aspect of all this.mikechamp wrote: ↑June 17 20, 9:53 amNot trying to make a judgment on your marriage here, go birds, but make sure you have clear lines of communication with your spouse. Re: Questions re: Building a House
We visited a couple weekends ago and fell in love. We're both lucky enough to be in a situation where we can work from home 100% of the time, but also within reasonable distance of Denver (where our companies are based out of) to go into the office if need be.
@Transmogrified Tiger I hope you werent seriously looking into buying that place because i think we're going to drive up there in a couple weeks to check it out LOL

haha no it's all yours, glad it sounds interesting! My Estes Park interests are more of the retirement/vacation home if we hit it big variety.
