Hey, a few years ago she would have been DQ'd for signing an incorrect scorecard. It is bad, but it is what it is. That person that turned in Thompson was probably just doing what he/she thought was best.

They could have been trying to help a competitor. It makes no sense to have only the players who get extensive TV time subject to a level of scrutiny that no one else gets. They have officials on every hole, right? If those guys don't catch it right then and there it shouldn't be a penalty. She didn't even give herself an advantage.

I get it. But, it's always been that way. The ball was clearly replaced incorrectly; and although it didn't give her an advantage, it's still a violation. You'd like to think common sense would prevail, but golf's never been a sport to teeter on the rules.

Back around 2000 there was a viewer that brought a Tiger Woods spot and replacement to the USGA during the US Open and they looked into it. IIRC, Tiger Woods was leading by a substantial amount, so it's not a new thing. And, it was determined that Woods did it correctly. I bet this happens a couple times a tournament. But, pros are very good at doing it correctly so it never gets any attention.

Some people are just sticklers for the rules and get hardons for being smart enough to catch these things...probably not the most fun people at parties but to each their own.

Mickelson says guys on tour have become too loose with marking their ball.

“I know a number of guys on Tour that are loose with how they mark the ball and have not been called on it,” Mickelson said. “I mean, they will move the ball 2, 3 inches in front of their mark, and this is an intentional way to get it out of any type of impression and so forth and I think that kind of stuff needs to stop. But I think it should be handled within the Tour.”

But that the LPGA still handeled it wrong.

“That should have been handled within the LPGA saying, ‘Hey, look, you're a little lax in how you're marking the ball. You need to be careful. Here's a warning and let's go from there,’” he said. “But to have a tournament be decided like that, with all the scenarios going around, as far as viewers calling in, as far as it being a 1‑foot putt with really no advantage, just a little bit of loose marking, I just think it should be reversed. I think that she should be given the trophy.”

Storm Prediction Center issued a high risk of severe storms for part of Georgia tonight, including Augusta. It's rare that they issue a high warning. Could be very scary there.
