Does he have a family? I would expect he'll not be able to open his practice back up, or will have to relocate if he wants to continue his career.

Move to Texas and he'll have more business than he'll know what to do with.

Giraffes, sure, those explitevers are lording their evolution over us all the time. But a lion?

Safari hunting is the stupidest 'sport' ever. I hate these Oregon 'hunters' who 'hunt' by driving around forest fire roads and not even get out of their car to shoot the animals they spot (often at night with a spotlight). But that doesn't even compare to this. It's like hunting steakless cattle.

Yeah, a wife and I believe two kids. One report I read said his dental practice FB page had quite the influx of angry posters, as well as links to an online petition with over 12k signatures.

I presume the petition would be for him to be sent back to Zimbabwe for him to be arrested and face trial.

If he can afford to take multiple trips to Africa at 50K a pop, he can probably fade being out of work for a little bit.

We really need to get to the root of the problem. I hope the park sues him and he gets taken for a cleaning. Next time he leaves the country, I hope he gets a full body cavity search at the airport.

Let's be honest here, by the weekend someone will open up a go fund me page for the poor out of work dentist and he'll rake in a few million from people just like him.

My friend (real friend, not just Facebook level) is about to head to Hwange to finish her PhD and was supposed to work using Cecil's GPS data. She's a super conservationist, spends extended time in rain forests saving panthers and what not, and wrote a really well informed and balanced post on the weird conservationist relationship with trophy hunting.

She was obviously aghast and saddened by this illegal hunt, but I didn't realize the percentage of conservation funds that come from auctioned trophy hunting licenses.

So, how many elephants were slaughtered during today's Internet outrage?

Yup - move him to Texas and he won't have any problem finding clients.
