Well, yeah. Insurance premiums were a 33% discount from what was expected for 21 year old non-smokers (at only $93/month...which seems ridiculous anyway..hwo the hell does it cost $1116 annually to insure a healthy 21 year old kid)? Obamacare is the awesome!

Just kidding.

But, really, at this point you can find information to paint whatever picture you want. Which means a couple things, imo. No one knows what's going on. And, it's not a slam dunk for being better than or worse than the existing system. If it's not better than the existing system, even if it's not worse, it sure seems a lot of money is being wasted to tread water...but I digress.

I just keep going back to financial impacts for me, and it's decidedly not good. So, from a purely personal point of view, I don't like it. And, all signs point to me liking it less and less in the future. I've documented all this on here already, so I won't get back to it.

I'm hoping that once ACA takes effect, I'll be able to actually buy insurance that covers maternity. Right now, there are no private insurance options to do so in Texas, which is absurd. And this is why the only people having kids now are the wealthy and those too poor to have to worry about paying hospital bills.

the aca was never anything more than a first step. Its amazing it got done in such a polarized environment. It will be made better as time passes I hope. already price inflation is down and some places are seeing insurance companies estimating premiums will be significantly reduced from their first estimations.
I'd love to see that information. Because, what I've experienced, first hand, it's completely the opposite.

From 2002 to 2010, family premiums for employer health coverage increased by almost 8.2 percent per year on average. Since 2011, they rose 5.6 percent per year.

Health care costs and insurance premiums have been going up for quite awhile. It's just convenient now to blame it all on the ACA.

Not an indication of what will happen once obamacare takes over. And, certainly not good news.

I edited my post above. As noted, insurance costs and premiums have been going up for a decade.

Any chance that the ACA and it's cluster [expletive] -edness will lead to a greater call for nationalized health care? Potential bonus -causing a few states like Texas to secede.

It's what should have happened to begin with, in my opinion. But it smells like "socialism" to some folks, so they'll fight it every step of the way.

So....are you celebrating a 5.6%/year increase in health care costs? ACA hasn't even taken effect yet and there's a lot of numbers suggesting that 5.6% increase won't stay and may even outpace the 8.2% gains the first couple years...losing any ground made.

I'm not thrilled about it, but that's not the point. You're blaming the ACA, but things were pretty clearly headed in the wrong direction before the ACA. As already mentioned, the ACA was just the first step, and obviously needs some work, but I think it's pretty obvious that something needed to be done.

It's politics. Numbers can be spun to back up whatever point one wants to make.

Both parties are culpable for ACA being what it is. And that will continue as long as the political focus is on making the opposition look bad instead of doing the right thing for the country.
